The neighbor's dog barked ALL night....

I didn't sleep at all, and DH barely slept. Chat Icon We got home around 9 and when we got out of our car he was barking, which he usually does when a car comes near his house and people get out.
He continued to bark the ENTIRE night! Chat Icon I am not friendly w/ these ppl, otherwise I would've found their # in the phone book or walked over (their entrance to their house is around the corner- the dog is actually in their back yard which is right across the street from our driveway.)
He barked until it started raining around 6:30/7:00 this morning. Chat Icon I felt so bad for him- I wanted to go over and take him...... why would he bark that long? I think he was cold from being left outside overnight. Chat Icon I think they usually bring him in, but DH is wondering if they went away for the night and left him outside. Poor baby.... I am going to see if I see them outside today or tomorrow and ask them if they were home and let them know their poor dog barked ALL night!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hope the owners are okay... if they usually bring him in but did not think to do so this time maybe something has happened to them?

Re: The neighbor's dog barked ALL night....

Honestly if it appears as though the dog was left out I would let them know that the dog was miserable. Also if they do not provide proper food and adequate shelter for the dog, then it is neglect to leave the dog out all night. The dog could have been frightened or hurt.Chat Icon

I'd keep my eye out for other signs of neglect.Chat Icon

Re: The neighbor's dog barked ALL night....

Thanks guys. The owners are older than me but younger than my parents- probably about 10 years older than me and they have a son who is probably in 3rd or 4th grade. If they were an older couple I probably would've gone over last night to check on them.
I just got back from church and didn't think to check to see if their car is in the driveway but they have a garage also so it could be in there if it's not in their driveway. I was thinking I'm going to drop a letter in their mailbox letting them know that their dog was miserable and it was cold out and he barked all night and we were worried about him--- and that if they had to go away that in the future they could ask us to check on him or even watch him for the night at our house rather than leave him out in the cold. I think you are doing the right thing. Not only for your peace, but for the sake of the dog as well.Chat Icon

I swear, I don't know why some people bother having pets at all...they're obviously not doing this poor dog any favors... Chat Icon
