the no cry sleep solution

I am reading the book and plan on using it to help ds sleep through the night. Or at least longer then 2 hour shifts. I let him cry the other night for 10 minutes and he almost threw up all over his crib and I felt like an aweful mommy for letting it happen. I know CIO works for some but it is just not for us. I want to stay with attached parenting so we are trying the no cry method. Has anyone tried this? Did it work? Do you have any pointers for me? TIA
