Re: The Paleo Diet - Anyone try it? or read the book?
Yesterday was my first day....it's not easy but definitely something I can see myself sticking to. The hardest part for me was dinner. I made a lean beef stirfry and usually I would add some soy or terriyaki sauce but since that's a no no, I looked in the Paleo cookbook and and saw something for a stirfry....cut up some lemon, squeezed it over the meat, added some cumin, chili powder and onion powder and it gave it a nice flavor. I also read that lemon pepper is a good replacement for salt to add flavor. I just have to restock my spice rack so I have lots of options to season my meat with. Other than that....so far so good! ;) This morning...I blended up some melon with water and ice and added some cinnamon and made a fruit juice/smoothie for breakfast with some almonds. I haven't figured out how to still have a cup of coffee in the morning without milk. I have to see what the book suggests. I really think this is a great lifestyle for me. The health benefits alone are encouraging...but to lose weight too! That's a bonus!

I don't get it? It sounds like south beach but no carbs at all and no fruit??
No, that's not true at all, it involves a lot of fruit & veggies. It's not that you're rejecting carbs, it's that you're not eating processed foods, so that winds up eliminating most carbs.
I need to mention that a lot of people seem to have confusion about "organic" & "processed"... I don't care if you tell me you're eating organic bread, it's still a processed food. Unless you're baking your own bread, it's processed. It's great to eat organic but this diet is about not eating anything processed.
The point of it is to be a 'natural' diet, like a 'hunter/gatherer' diet, so you eat 'like a caveman' in a sense. I eat a lot of meat, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies. I have no idea what south beach entails so I can’t tell you how it differs.
So what type of carbs can you eat? Is it no (whole wheat) pasta at all? That would make me sad.
What about eating at restaurants? Can you do so on this plan?
I'm so confused...
Your carbs will come from fruits and veggies mainly- This diet eliminates ALL GRAINS (including whole wheat). You can still eat out you just have maintain the diet plan.
