I never understood what was going on re: the Nazis and I'm not sure I fully understand it now.

I never understood what was going on re: the Nazis and I'm not sure I fully understand it now.
Captain Von Trapp served in the Austrian Navy. When the Anschluss (Austria becoming part of Nazi Germany)happened, Captain Von Trapp opposed it and did not want to be a part of the Nazi party so he took his family and fled to Italy. That is the most simple explanation I can think of. If anyone else can correct me or add to it, be my guest.

Yes, this is basically what happened. But in reality it happened about 7 or 8 years after they were married, not right when they returned from their honeymoon.
I keep meaning to get this book that Maria wrote. The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers
