I am going to start C25k! Dumb question but what do you use to time yourself lol?!!!

There are free podcasts you can download from itunes that are set to music and tell you when to run and walk. They have one for each week. Just search for Couch to 5K and they'll pop up.

In the first post is a link to podrunner. If you download those, there is a chime that tells you when to run and when to walk.

I used a timex watch, too, that had interval timer settings. It was hard during one of the weeks when the intervals change a few different times. I think I used two watches then. Chat Icon

I'm so glad I found this thread! It seems like a lot of the girls that started it were like me. I did Week 1 Day 1 last night and thought i was going to die. its inspiring to see other girls start like that then end up running 5K. keep this thread going!

did anyone lose weight doing this?

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

Just got back from finishing Week 1 Day 2 and I did all the runs without stopping!! I even sprinted on the last run! what a difference from sunday. I couldn't finish the 5th run then. i hope this energy lasts.

question...possibly a stupid one...is there a right way to run? like posture wise i guess? whenever i tried to run in the past i always ended up hurting my ankles. how do i make sure that doesnt happen again? TIA!

You were probably wearing the wrong sneakers. The running shoe you wear is VERY important to avoid injuries

Not stupid at all. You don't want to slump over which is easy to do when you are tired. So you want to pay attention to your posture and if you find yourself hunching, correct yourself. Also, try keeping your arms and elbows close to your side. Don't swing your arms across your body.

As for your ankles, having the right sneakers help. If you have any pronation or rolling issues, the right sneaker will prevent that. For instance, if you roll your foot inwards, your ankles are susceptible to injury and the right sneaker will prevent it. If you haven't already done so, go to a running store (not d i c k ' s or sports authority) and get a gait analysis. They will videotape you and see how your feet move and guide you to the right shoe.

Otherwise, in the beginning, you will find that you are very critical and self conscious of how you run. As you run more and see how others run, you won't care so much.

Have fun!

thank you so much for that advice!! my aunt's fiancee works at Jack Rabbit in the city and for my birthday he's getting me a pair of running sneakers! they specialize in them and also do the video taping thing. so excited!

thats for the tips on the running. i do feel like im very conscious of the way im running. but like you said hopefully that will pass.

I just started the program again but I'm doing it on the treadmill for now. I had attempted this back in the fall (running outside) and my lower back problems reared their ugly head, so I'm trying to ease into it this time around. Wish me luck...I'll need it! Chat Icon
