Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

After getting shin splints, I ended up taking a couple days off. I did Week 1, Day 3 yesterday. I bought arch supports for my running shoes (I have flat feet) and am hoping that's the end of the shin splints for me. I feel fine today, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I am SO ready to start Week 2 tomorrow! Chat Icon

I did day 1 of week 3 today and it wasn't bad at all! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to run for the whole 3 minutes but I was fine. Now I'll be dreading week 4 all week!Chat Icon

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

What speed is everyone running at the gym. I run on 4.8 or 4.7 and find it tough enough. I am hoping to get my speed up to 5.0 by the end of this week but I cannot imagine going up to 6.0. I hope one day I can!!!!!!

My runs fluctuate between 5.0 and 5.5. I'm concentrating on endurance first, then I'll work on speed.

I started week 5 yesterday. I thought it was easier than week 4 for some reason!

You are building endurance for those weeks and personally, I just did week 5 as a 2 week week by repeating day 1 and day 2 a few times before hitting the 20 minute run for day 3. The 20 minute run is more of a mental thing. It's to show you that you CAN run. Then you go back to a few intervals to keep building the endurance. Don't let the numbers play mind games with you. As Nike says, Just Do It!!! And for me, I'm listening to trance music (via podrunner) and I'm actually zoning out. And if you are having trouble getting through the runs, chances are you are going too fast.Chat Icon

Did Day 1 of Week 3 this morning! I'm honestly proud of myself for doing this...I NEVER stick with work outs. Generally after a week or two, I'm done, so this is new for me and most surprising of all is how much I'm actually enjoying it Chat Icon

I agree, I'm actually enjoying it too! It definitely gives me that feeling of accomplishment at the end of every week.
Today i did day 1 of week 4 and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. It's actually getting a little easier each week and my breathing is getting a lot better. Keep up the great work ladies!

Did Day 2 of Week 3 today. I'm honestly hurting a bit. I have poison ivy and though taking Benedryl has helped with the itching, it makes me feel exhausted and sick to my stomach. I'm going to push through though. I don't want to stop for any reason! Chat Icon

It happens! Just get back out again. I had some glitches last year and the week turned into a month and then into 3 months. Ireally was hard on myself about it. I had to remember that it wasn't a race to finish, but a journey I was going to be on for *hopefully* the rest of my life. That helped me a lot. So, no worries. Chat Icon

Thank you soo soo much! I started week 5 yesterday and had no problems whatsoever with it. I cannot believe how much endurance I have built in 5 weeks. I am really very proud of myself considering before this I was never able to run at all! Thanks for all your help ladies!

Thats great!!
I started week 5 today and definitely noticed such an improvement in my endurance as well. The last five minutes was easier than the first!
