Theresa Caputo LI Medium investigated for Fraud
For instance, in one episode she went to San Francisco, and stayed at a supposed haunted hotel. She then felt spirits of a child and other nonsense. I googled the hotel and of course, it gives in depth details of the deaths that occurred in the hotel. I remember telling DH what a crock I thought it was, and anyone could just google the peoples'. Names or jn this case the hotel. If she googled my first/last name, she would find my mothers obituary, and another post online that was published about her death in a local paper. She'd Also see I've made donations to her cause. I think it's pretty easy to do some digging .

As a part time genealogist, I agree. I can put together a pretty good picture of the type of life a person lead just by using google and some other sites.

I will say I am a fan of hers and am so bummed now to hear these things. I signed up for a reading with her 3 years ago when my mom passed suddenly and if I was called I would still go but I am def more skeptical now.
I always remember hearing that when Houdini died he told his wife a secret word that only the 2 of them knew. He said if there was a real psychic they would tell her that word. No one was ever able to tell it to her.

Just to play devils advocate...
I didn't see Theresa but someone else. My uncle who I never met came through. One thing he said (and I am paraphrasing) he had a message for my aunt (his sister) he identified her by name. The message was about a surgery she was going to have, a surgery below the waist, my uncle said it would be okay and he would be with my aunt during it. I had no idea what he was talking about but I of course delivered the message.
My aunt was so happy to hear this. Apparently she had just scheduled her 4th surgery on her knee and was really considering not going through with it because the previous 3x it didn't work. She was considering canceling and trying a holistic route or living with the pain.
My aunt was extremely close to this brother who does as a teen. The message meant a lot to her. But she's a believer.
Anyway how could this medium have googled about this surgery? I didn't even know she had it planned, so obviously I had no idea she had anxiety about it as well.

I believe some mediums are the real thing. According to the bible they do exist. I would never go to one because I have different believes.
This! In the bible they mention mediums but they also mention how you should not go to them. I do believe they can see "things" but because of my personal beliefs I would never go to one.

she read my aunt in a room of 400 people where she knew no ones names and my aunt said nothing about why she was there to anyone. theresa knew that she lost both of her parents and step mother (my grandparents) and that she was really there to hear from my grandfather, my grandmother/grandfather stepped aside so her real mom could come through. and she said i know you do not want to hear from her but this is about what you need to hear, not what you want to. then went no to talk about her childhood with her real mom. she also brought up several pieces of info from our family that were specific, not general. i mean really, does that story pertain to everyone is a room? and the detail she brought up is even more of an indication that shes not reading peoples emotions, etc. if youre not a believer, thats one thing, but if youve never experienced it maybe you should have a more open mind.

I don't even fully believe in mediums and I have to agree with you. I think I am pretty good at detecting scam artists and she just really doesn't seem like one to me. At all. She just doesn't seem like she's faking anything or lying when you see her read people.

I know people that know her and say she does not just come across people in stores or streets and reads them the entire show is staged. I had a group reading with her and nothing, she gave such general info for my table that the information matched everyone sitting at the table. She charges a lot of $$$$ as well.

An episode was filmed in of one my clients dental office, I think in the first season. Her producers contacted this office which is in port Washington and it's not Theresa's regular dentist, they said they wanted to be sure she wouldn't know anyone there. The entire staff was asked if they knew her before they decided to film. A good friend of mine works in the practice but only started there about a month prior. Theresa read her but they didn't air it because she also read several other people.
My friends mom passed away after a long sickness only a few months
before. Theresa told her things she could not have known and things she didn't share with anyone there because she just started.
I'm a believer in mediums in general however a realize that very few reality shows are truly real.

The show she did at the gym I attend was not staged unless they staged it so well that none of the members knew it was staged. The owner didn't even know she was coming.

I absolutely believe in mediums but Theresa IS filming a show. Obviously a lot of it is staged and scheduled. Also they're not going to air the 90 year old mother figure that comes through with a message of love and peace for her daughter. They're going to air the tragedies like the woman whose husband passed on their wedding night or parents that lost children bc that is what "sells" to an audience.
I am pretty sure Theresa isn't fake. I know three people who made it into her show and the back stories I was all familiar with from prior. I don't see how all the people she reads are actors.
My experience with mediums has been fabulous and I am positive that my loved ones are out there guiding me.

How can anyone be shocked? Of course she's a fraud. All mediums are frauds. They are good at guessing basic things and take advantage of the credulous. There was actually a camp/gathering place for them in upstate NY somewhere where they share information about their craft. The NY Times did a fascinating article about it and interviewed participants. It was interesting to see how they use certain questions and are able to hit fairly close most of the time. People want to believe in mediums, so what they do appears real. Actually, I find it sad as they take in the gullible at times when they are most vulnerable.

I watched a doc once - "no one dies in lily dale" - it was fascinating!

I was on her show personally. It was in a restuarant fundraiser with about 30 people. I didn't say anything to anyone - producers, PA's, patrons, etc. The only thing I did before she came in was sign a release. She was spot on down to dates and names - and not just "his name began with the letter A" but physically said the name Giacomo (you don't just pull that one out of thin air)

Agreed.
If hearing messages from my loved ones (whether real or not) can bring me some sort of peace and closure, I am all for it. I put myself on her waiting list last year and I would love to get a reading.

If it was for the show the owner had to know. They probably signed a confidentiality agreement but the producers have to get permission to enter for legal reasons.

I have a friend that lives in her town and knows of places she goes regularly and she never reads for anyone, out of the blue unless the cameras are rolling. I wish she would cut those nails...they drive me crazy.

so i was a huge fan, and was very disappointed at her show at the NYCB theater at westbury... theresa read this lady who lost her daughter in a boating accident and it was very tragic. At the end of the show, I was standing outside the theater trying to exit the building, and overheard the lady who got read saying that she had already met theresa before and had the exact same reading... I was so upset because she put this whole act on during the show and pretended she didn't even know that lady. I was really upset that I wasted $100 on that

What??? Did it seem like the lady was in on it or was she disappointed? That's ridiculous.
I should have probably prefaced by saying I don't have a feeling wither way on mediums. Some are legit and others are total scammers. So sad...
