Re: things no one tells you about L&D....
I had staples and I had a c-section. I went home with the staples and had them removed a week after.

I had a c/s and you could not have regular food, only a liquid diet until you pass gas.

Re: things no one tells you about L&D....
Was the passing gas thing only for C/S?? Cause no one asked me that question and i went vaginally. I agree with the shower. And the ice packs, ( i had DH bring my ice packs from home cause the hospital ones only lasted for about 20 min) I actually didnt need pain killers.. only motrin if i needed any at all. Oh and I sat on the boppy pillow for about 2 weeks PP. Thats the most i've used of the darn thing!! The bleeding SUX you feel like your hemmoraging.. oh and I had gotten a hemmorhoid the size of Florida from pushing.. so the tucks and prep H were so good! The nurses were actually calling one another in to look how big it was! Oh and i personally didnt breast feed from the get go so i brought a few bras and a few sports bras and a few old ripped sheets. I wore my bra and sports bra the whole time and tied the ripped sheets around my breasts to bind them so my milk would not come in and any that did would dry up quicker. I even showered with all that. And i have to say it worked like a charm. My breasts never filled and never hurt at all. Good luck to all the mommies!!

Hmm...I didn't experience this. In fact, once I got to my room after recovery, the nurse said I could have whatever I wanted. DH got me Burger King . I was never once asked whether I passed gas or not...

Same here. Just little pinches. Nothing compared to the pain you experience the first time you get up.

I totally agree with taking a shower. They didnt let me take a shower until 2 days after I had the baby and as soon as I did I felt a MILLION times better.
If you have a c-section try to get up and walk around as soon as you can. The sooner you get up the easier it gets each time. You will need help tho, its not easy!
Also, I was SUPER scared of being embarrassed of being seen naked or anything else happening, but trust me all that goes out the window, especially if your in pain, so don't sweat it!
Definitely take that shower as soon as you can! I felt wonderful afterwards.
The first time I got up after the C-section, was the first time I had to use the bathroom after they removed the catheter. I paged the nurse for help. Don't try it on your own! It BURNED and I was shocked how badly it hurt, but I managed.
I also agree about the whole being naked thing. My butt was hanging out that whole first trip to the bathroom and I didn't care in the least

The first day they gave me soup and things along those lines and after that was regular food. They did however ask me ALL THE TIME if I passed gas. I wasn't and she kept bugging me so I eventually told the nurse I was and she left me alone. They give you mylicon chewables to help with the gas and it does help.

One more thing that I was not expecting, you will feel the worst pressure in your butt, if you are giving birth vaginally. They tell you "you feel feel some pressure", well I just assumed it woudl be in the vaginal area but it was not.
And go to the drugstore and buy DERMAPLAST...it is buy all the sunburn treatment stuff. I know Target sells the hostpital strentch stuff and spray it on your vaginal area every couple of hours. I had on a few days of soreness after delivery and i think this had a lot to do with it.

Thank you ladies. Now that I'm scared out of my witts.
Don't be...Honestly, your mind and body forgets the pain it was under VERY quickly. I had an epi but it only went to my left side so I felt everything including the episiotomy. By the next morning I said to myself, "That wasn't so bad. I'd do it again!" Really, your body forgets.

Oh, and if you have pain sitting afterwards..tell them! I did with my 2nd, and I didn't mention anything until my 6 week check up. Thats when I found out that I broke my tailbone

That you can refuse staples if you have a c/s..I did and got strips instead that just fall off. Of course, I had a horrific reaction to the strips (which is VERY, VERY rare) but the staples scared me too much.

This is great info. Thanks for sharing. I guess if you have never experienced childbirth, you can't but feel scared a little bit.
