Re: Thinking about getting my almost 3 year old daughters ear pierced?
I have no idea (and Ann is isn't asking) but my grandmother got me my ears pierced as a Kindergarten "graduation" gift ... so in my mind, I don't think I'd want to get hers done any sooner than around that age.
As it is, it depends on her mood if we can brush or style her hair or a million other things ... at this point I don't want to throw in having to care for them (in the beginning) and then having to keep her wearing them.

Re: Thinking about getting my almost 3 year old daughters ear pierced?
Absolutely! My theory on it (if I ever have a girl) is that she should be old enough to make the decision for herself, whenever that may be. That's the approach my parents took. I got my ears pierced when I asked for it, when I was 5. My younger sister asked at 4, that's when she got them. Not sure about my older sister, but I know it was around the same age. If you are worried she is too young to fully understand and don't want to do something so permanent yet, what about trying clip on earrings for a while?

Do they make clip on for toddlers? That might be a good approach for now

I don't know that they make specific toddler ones, but they definitely make ones for kids. Just searched on Amazon: kid's clip ons

Good idea! This was exactly what our 3 year old was saying! We took her and are glad she made the choice

Same here...my 3 yr old is asking also. I dont think she is ready to handle it yet, but I am thinking in a year or so when she can really understand. I got my ears pierced when I was 6. I do remember the pain, but I do feel that at 3 they really can't understand yet. So I will wait a bit.

Re: Thinking about getting my almost 3 year old daughters ear pierced?
My daughter asked in January--she had just turned 3 in December. My plan had been to wait for her to ask, and give her a special day. I had kind of hoped that she would be a little older, just so she would remember it, but I was also so excited so I was thrilled when sahe asked, and continued to ask. We made a plan for a day, and went as a family. We went to lunch and had grilled cheese and milkshakes, then off for her ear piercing, with plans for the movies after. She did great! She picked out her own earrings, we video taped it, and she was thrilled and proud. She didn't cry, and she still talks about it and says what a big girl she was and didn't cry at all--"it was just a pinch". We never made it to the movies cause it was all too much by then, but we went shopping and she picked out new shoes. She was very proud going back to pre school the next monday and showed off her earrings. It was very sweet and special.
Now, my two year old did also ask while we were there, and I had to say no. MOstly because i wanted her to want it for herself, not just because her sister was doing it, and also because I didn't want to steal the older one's thunder on the special day that was planned for her. My 2yo hasn't brought it up independently, but when she does, we'll do the same for her.
