They kill and hurt each other, yes. What do you think mobs do with bodies? They get rid of them. If it is reported, it is a missing person, not a homicide.
wow. it's gonna start smelling really bad really soon wherever all these bodies are buried.
while I do not doubt that there is serious gang violence in the schools there, this seems a bit dramatized.
even in Brownsville BK it's not as bad as what you are describing...REd Hook even. and these are some scary places.

wow, CNN was way off on that one. Brentwood is definitely one of the more dangerous towns in Suffolk without a doubt. I think gang crime statistics are not often reported, but I don't know if those crime stats are right anyway--I know just from reading the police blotter than property crime in that area should be higher. I think they manipulate those numbers.
I agree with you that there is alot of crime there. It's definitely not like it used to be.

Re: This is a story the community should be up in arms about
Why is this about how 'terrible' Brentwood is?
To say that you wouldn't drive through it - sounds like you've never driven through it.
A family was attacked, in their home, unprovoked - it's about THEM. Maybe Newsday didn't cover it because they're from Brentwood and not Sands Point.
It doesn't make them any less worthy of coverage and help.

I said I avoid driving through there when I can help it. Of course I've driven through there (did you read the post before jumping to conclusions? i don't usually get defensive, but really...).
I believe it turned into that when I said I think it gets less coverage of the area, and I don't know how anyone would disagree with that.
The fact of the matter is that the doctor from CT whose family was slain in their home receives nationwide coverage. It's a doctor! It's Connecticut! It wasn't meant to turn into a Brentwood bashing session, but the fact remains that if it was Great Neck or Roslyn you bet it would be page 1. It is what it is.
We can argue about whether gangs bury or burn dead bodies, which I really don't care about...Point is, where the incident occurs dictates what page the story will be placed.
Here's another recently killed Brentwood man no one probably heard about.

and MY point is, why is this OK with people who LIVE on LI. why is it OK or accepted, that a dog murder gets more coverage, more reward money posted, than a person?
is it b/c it is presumed that the person did something to deserve it, while the dog attack is unprovoked...
is is assumed that this is something that just happens to people there...
are you less valuable as human life if you lve there to the people who live around you???
yes, the newspapers are the people responsible for printing this stuff..
but just look at how many people LURKED on this thread but said nothing...why is that?
why is poor Kristina not the focal point of this thread? why is it her neighborhood instead???
ETA: I think the poor girl and her family deserve some of the prayers that this (LIF) family is known to provide

That poor family. I can't help but think that there would have been a greater chance of catching this monster if the media had used it's power in March. They are now, 5 months later, trying to catch a man with no description. the only chance they had was based on leads offered by people affiliated with the attacker- and those kinds of leads only occur when the crime is fresh. I'm pretty sure this degenerates fasmiy/ friends, aren't going to read this story now and be like- "hmmm- wasn't Johnny out that night innexplicably?"

Drugs, violence, theft, etc happens EVERYWHERE.
You would never think it...never. It is just more commonplace in certain areas, most of which happen to be low income.

Re: This is a story the community should be up in arms about
Brentwood is not a scary place at all. Murders do not take place everyday there. That is not true at all.
Is it a neighborhood that has more gang activity and violence than most on LI - yes, but you know what - there are a lot of neighborhoods on LI that have gang activity and gang violence.
What happened to this family is a tragedy. The SCPD should have done everything in their power to catch this animal, and hopefully they will find him asap. This family lives in fear everyday while the piece of garbage that ruined their lives is roaming the street.

Re: This is a story the community should be up in arms about
I read this in the paper this morning and my first reaction (after horror) was how come I never heard of this before? My heart goes out to this family. First they lose their mother to a to a terrible disease and now they lose a sister. I hope they catch the b*stard that did this to them.

ITA
Look at Maximus. They got the reward $$ up to $20K in a matter of days and low and behold his friends turned him in.
Imagine the power some reward money and coverage would have done 5 months ago.
I for the family and friends.

i could not agree more with this.
it is sad and disgusting that this crime did not get the media coverage it deserved, and NEEDED at the time, to get a break in the case. i will pray for this family!

Re: This is a story the community should be up in arms about
I did a search on google. It was spoken about, but I don't know how much.
This was News12.com 3.16.07
This one looks like some kind of news blog link with references to Newsday It mention Newsday talking about it in the following days after it happened, but the only lead they had was that it was a tall thin male
