Most annoying on the Today show was the mother of the girl who supposedly lured her ... she claimed her daughter warned the girl if she went in she'd be getting beat up by the others. 
And when Matt Lauer kept putting her on the spot with questions she was like "my daughter isn't even a cheerleader!"
The beating took place in her mother's house for crying out loud!!! (grandmother of the girl)
Anyway, just pure insanity and a sad commentary on today's kids.
I don't understand parents. IF my daughter ever acted this way I would be so embrassed and would NEVER agree to go on television to defend my daughter.
Seriously, this is why the kids act the way the do

I saw this on the news this morning...its absolutely terrible!
I saw this on the Today Show this morning also. I am really saddened by this. So many kids today are insanely out of control. It's really frightening, where did accountability go?

The whole thing is disturbing. The mother of the girl that was beat up said her daughter has scars that will never go away. 
All those involved are acting so casual about it. The look out's who even admitted they were looking out were mad because they had nothing to do with the beatings and couldnt understand why they were in trouble when they were outside  
The whole thing is just sad.

It's disgusting that these girls did this but it is even more disgusting that these parents are not holding their children responsible and are making excuses for them.
God knows if it were my kids, I would beat the crap out of those girls myselves. How can people be proud of themselves for raising kids that do that to other people?

This is obviously in someone's house and I'd like to know where the parents are that own the house. Not that I'm saying it's the parents fault but if an adult was home maybe it would not have gotten that out of control. And why do 16 year old have access to video camera's? That's another problem that I have.

I was so annoyed at that mom. Why can't parents admit when there kid does something wrong? Yeah, her daughter was an angel in all this Telling the girl not to go in the house because the other girls were waiting for her. Please, if she really was against this, she wouldn't have participated at all, or would have called the police. Wake up and smell the beans lady, your daughter is as guilty as the rest of them It is a sad society we live in today. I feel like the kids today have no respect or conscious at all.

What a terrible story. Teenagers are out of control.
I agree, of course, that this is a terrible story, but I just can't paint all teenagers with the same brush. It's kids like these who give kids this age such a bad reputation. It's terrible because there are a lot of great kids out there, too. They need to make an example out of these girls and try them as adults. (I can't bring myself to watch it, but if they're 16 or over, they can do that, can't they?)

They should put these girls in jail for a few days and let them get their a$$es kicked and see how they like it.
And responding to someone else's earlier post, unfortunately I remember lots of girls (and guys) fighting in high school. Everyone got "smart" and would do it off the school property on the street so it couldnt be broken up

But the mother of one of the girls said that Lindsay had provoked the other teens by threatening and insulting them on MySpace, a social networking Web site.
So because she posted an insulting comment she gets a beat down.
Lindsay was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated for a concussion, damage to her left eye and left ear, and numerous bruises, the report said.
All eight were charged last week with battery and false imprisonment, which are third-degree felonies, the report said.
I hope they all get tried as adults

Now see if their mothers and fathers had taught them the very simple:

But Names will never hurt me
All of this could have been avoided.
The damn parents should hold some of the blame too!
