Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
So ds is still miserable. Luckily we were able to feed him 5 ounces before bed so that's progress. But we put him down at 6pm and he got up at 7pm already.
Since he was actually able to take a 2 hour nap in his swing today, we decided we'd put him in his swing tonight.
So i know you say this is all normal, but am i going to be up all night tonight?
When does it become not normal, other than the fever? I feel like i all of a sudden have a colicky baby here. And i don't like it!!!!

Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
Awww, Ali. I hate when they are feeling under the weather!!
If he seems stuffy, sit in the bathroom (I usually sit on the toilet) with him, shower turned to the hottest it will go. That will break up any mucous in his nose and chest. Immediately after use the booger sucker.
Vicks on the chest and feet. Not sure what the feet does, but so many people have told me to put it on there so I do.
You can try putting Eucalyptus oil in the cool midst humidifier. (definitely use cool midst). Also, try to turn the heat down a bit in the house. Heat is what stuffs you up. My ped suggested 69-70. Not sure if that is too cold for you.
Can you put a pillow under his mattress a bit to try getting him on an incline?
And personally.....it could be teething related, so I'd give some Tylenol.

Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
okay but what do i do at night?
I've done everything people have recommended (tylenol, vicks, humidifier, elevated mattress, saline, nasal aspirator, etc).
But he's been waking up EVERY HOUR, sometimes every half hour. This past time, we tried for an hour and a half to get him to go back down and nothing we did worked. Each time he was close to falling asleep, he'd cough. Then he'd wake up and cry. He just keeps crying.
I'm getting to the point where i'm ready to let him cry...
I know that sounds horrible but last night i got 1 hour of sleep and i can't do it again tonight.

Poor baby. Did you give him motrin at all? I know your ped said not too, but that always helped my kids sleep if they weren't feeling well. Maybe it will at least help him get into a deeper sleep. And continue to use the saline drops - there is no medication in those and the boogie sucker. Hope he feels better soon!
ETA: The only thing with letting him cry is that it will probably just make him more congested unfortunately. Hope everyone gets some sleep!

Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
I would run the COOL mist humidifier as it reduces inflammation & helps him breathe at night.
He's probably exhausted. I would sleep with him in an upright position (on my chest actually). Not a great night sleep but at least he'll be comfortable. Have you tried him in the car seat? Just that slight incline helps drain nasal passages.

Yup we've been using the cool mist humidifier since friday. I tried putting him in his car seat to sleep and he wasn't having it (he hates the d*mn thing to begin with). We also tried the swing and he was waking just as much.
I also tried him sleeping on me in the glider and the couch. But he still wakes up.
Last night we were able to get a 4 hour stretch of sleep after we gave him motrin. But before and after that... he screamed bloody murder. It took us an hour and a half to calm him down both times. We'd calm him down and he'd start up again. God does his temper come out!!!
After this, i seriously am thinking about sticking ds in a bubble!!!!!!!!! I am now becoming a germaphobe!

Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
MY dd just went through this last week. The dr. said it was just a very bad cold. It took about a week for her to even start feeling or looking good again. Even after she felt better it still took a couple more days for her to finish her bottles again and she was so used to waking up several times a night that we had to let her CIO one night to get her back into her routine Usually she bounces back within 3-4 days so this cold really sucked. Good luck, it will get better!!!

Yeah the ped said it would take about a week before he felt better. Wednesday will be a week and i just can't see him getting much better by then because he is so so miserable.
The stinky thing is, we just ironed out his sleeping for naps and at night and now we have to start at square 1. He's probably gotten so used to us holding him, rocking him and everything else... that it's just going to be a nightmare. I feel like not one aspect with my son has been easy since he was born. Not 1. I just can't wait until he's older and i hate that i'm wishing it away.

Re: This is normal right- 6 month old sick????
Tyler is on day 9 of being sick. He is pretty much the opposite of Jacen. He has had a fever for the 9 days he is cranky here and there but for the most part is himself. And he is eating normal. He now has a cold and bad cough.
I hope he feels better!
