Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I am not a VBAC candidate. My cervical stenosis makes that impossible. HOWEVER, I have a feeling that I may end up going into labor before my scheduled date. Just a gut feeling. My OB told me that the second I feel labor, to haul my arse to the hospital ASAP - no playing around - it can be dangerous for me. Has this happened to many/any of you? Please share your experience.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
Yup, me. One week before my scheduled c-section. I had predicted it. I started getting intense contractions at work. I drove home. Went out to dinner with DH, where they started becoming 5 minutes apart. Thankfully there wsa a babysitter at home with Alex, so we went straight to the hospital after calling the doctor.
Unfortunately my experience was beyond worse than my labor with Alex. For god knows what reason the docs didn't beleive I was in labor; when my water finally broke, none of the surgical rooms were open, so they couldn't give me the spinal, which only lasts for about 45 mins. The reason being, they couldn't give me the spinal, knowing it might wear off before a room opened.
Needless to say, even though I was TOLD that going through labor would be dangerous, they allowed me to labor, unmedicated, screaming at the top of my lungs, for nearly 4 hours.

Well aint that comforting? If I labor I could blow out my uterus - JOY!

Sorry, don't mean to scare you If it's any comfort, I don't know many people who had a similar experience. Usually the second c-section goes very smoothly And I have to say, my recovery this time around was MUCH easier!

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I haven't had time to write my labor story yet, but this was me too.
I started having contractions 2 weeks before my scheduled c/s (due 8/16...scheduled for 8/11)
I told the OB my water broke 1 week befoer my due date the 1st time....he said, every pregnancy is different!
My water broke exactly one week before my due date
1st time around, I got an epi and I failed to progress beyond 3 1/2 cm on pitocin.
I showed up at the hospital about an hour after my water broke. It probably took them about an hour to even check me and I was at zero. Contractions were every 4-5 mins and getting worse. They checked me about an hour later since they could see how uncomfortable the contractions were getting for me and I went from zero to 4cm
Anesthesiologist was there...ready for me....we were all waiting on my OB to get there. I was so pizzed it was taking so long. They do not like to give an epi for a scheduled c/s before a spinal. I was pretty much begging them for it at that point. I could barely catch my breath between contractions. As soon as one ended the next one began. OB finally shows up and says...why aren't we doing a vbac? I said because I have an 8 plus lb baby in there. She says....ah, yes...let's get her into surgery. It was at least another 1/2 hour before I got the spinal and I know I must have been at 5 or 6 cm at that point. I labored WAY harder with this baby than I did with #1 and he was scheduled
If my last growth sono had shown a 6 or 7 lb baby....I totally would've had an epi and a vbac. DH and I were too nervous about the risk involved with such a big baby. No one thought I was a good candidate from the start. He was 8lbs 12 oz
I don't mean to tell you this to scare you....but I never imagined I was going to labor the way I did with this baby. I just want you to be prepared for anything. It also sounds like your OB wouldn't take their time getting there either. Based on my past history, there was no reason for my OB to think I would've progressed as fast as I did
I wish you an uneventful c/s

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I had a really bad experience. My water broke the night before my scheduled C/S. I was in full blown labor by the time I got to the hospital, terrible contractions every 8-10 minutes (I had complications last 2 months of my pregnancy and was on meds to stop early labor, I was already dilated almost 3cm by then...) There were no surgical rooms available AND my OB/GYN wasn't there yet so I was in terrible pain for almost 5 hrs before they wheeled me in.

It can be a VERY bad situation if I am held up. REALLY bad. That's why I have to be scheduled in the first place. Lets hope it doesnt happen. Thanks for the reponses.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I was in a very bad spot with labor too. My prior ob made my c/s too close to my bladder wall. My peri told me about a 1 1/2 mo before my dd that I was at risk for a uterine rupture if I went into labor. I went to my high risk ob and peri every week to have the scar measured. It kept shrinking but was holding on. The hosp wouldn't let my ob "sched" a c/s more than 10 days bf my edd. I began having ctx at 37w6d. As soon as they were timeable we went off to the hospital. I was not dilated though. I con't to contract for 7 more hours but it was not unbearable. I was waiting on my ob and anesthesia. By the time I had my c/s my ob said my uterine wall was just a membrane. He had to reconstruct the wall during my c/s. But everything turned out fine.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
i went into labor 12 hours before my scheduled c-section. I got to the hospital i was 6cm and had to argue with the resident why i could not have a vbac ( dangerous for me as well) and wait for my doctor.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I was scheduled 9/2 and AJ came 8/22 labor started around 1am and they let me wallow in misery until AJ was yanked out at 9:55
worst experience of my life!
But I did get to morphine shots which helped for a tiny bit on each.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
My C-section with Lexi was scheduled for Jan 6th with a hopsital arrival time of 6:30am......
On the night of January 5th around 10pm through 3am January 6th I had contractions into full blown labor and had to get my butt to the hospital ( I had previa and absolutely could NOT risk a vaginal delivery as it would be life threatening)...My water broke in the hospital parking lot ...Lexi was born just shy of 6am on the morning of my scheduled c-section
So "technically" I made it to my scheduled c-section just a few hours early

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I went into labor 5 days before my scheduled C-section. We went to the hospital because the doctor said it was dangerous for me to be in labor. We got there at 2:00 am and they had no problem letting me labor for the next 6 hours.
I would think in your situation, they will get you to an OR immediately, and if someone else had to be bumped, they would do it.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I went into labor with DS before my scheduled c/s. My water broke. I had gone from closed and tight the day before to 10 cm and fully effaced by the next day. I got to the hospital at 7 cm and with in 4 hours I was in active labor. I did not feel anything until active labor because of DS's position, but once there OMG. They were going to push me back to a later slot, but ran in when all the monitors started to go off. I was quickly given the c/s. I did not have any drugs until the c/s. I made it to my scheduled c/s for DD. However when there I was told that had I not had the early c/s scheduled within 6 hours I would have been there for an emergency c/s again....

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of your stories and will be sure to speak at length with my OB about this. Problem is that unless he feels my child is in true danger, by law, he cannot perform a scheduled c-section on me until I am 39 weeks. I know this. Abby was born one day before her due date, but this kid is nothing like Abby already.
Please pray for NO LABOR vibes!

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
Yes. With G I had a complete previa. I went into labor during my high-risk Dr visit at 35.5 weeks. I basically got into the car & drove to the Hospital. It was 5 blocks away, but I had to paralell park & I was driving my mother's car, since I could not climb into my Pick-up truck anymore!
They basically rushed me in & brought me right to triage. My Dr told me to call ahead and let them know that I was high-risk so that I would not get stuck in the waiting room of L&D. They immediately hooked me up to monitors, and had an emergency team ready. I was in L&D triage for about 3 hours before they actually had to walk me to the OR.
I went into labor 1 week early with Vito, but I was hoping for a VBAC, but never dilated. They still watched me like a hawk to make sure I was not at increased chance for rupture. I was in labor for many hours, and everything was fine.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
I wasn't originally scheduled for a c-section, but 9 days before I was due, they did a sono at my appt and realized DS was breech. That was Friday before Labor Day. So we decided to schedule me to come in the Tuesday after Labor day and they would try to turn him, and if it worked they'd induce me, if not, I'd go right to C-section.
But that night at 3:30 AM my water broke. I called the doctor and she told me to come in and I was scheduled for 8:00 AM.
I think I actually woke up to labor pains right before my water broke to- I know I turned over and felt heavy cramping - then felt that something was gonna happen so I stood up to go to the bathroom.
By the time we were on our way to the hospital, I was definately feeling labor pains - it wasn't too bad (well, having nothing to cojmpare it to) but it did hurt and as I waited in the hospital it got pretty painful.
DS was born at 8:48 so about 5 hours after my water broke - there weren't any problems.

Re: Those moms who had scheduled c-sections...laboring/going early?
Leslie, we already talked about my situation with Michael. I was told to haul arse to the hospital if my water broke because of my situation. I was actually at the doctor and it was the day I was to actually schedule my c-section for a further week. (Didn't even have the date yet, because they had the same blah blah blah about 39 weeks.)
Doctor sent me straight to the hospital for them to rip Michael right out. I had begun labor and they were taking no chances.
I wish you the best of luck!!!!
