those of you throwing birthday parties in the yard?
are you doing just a BBQ or a full catering my Dh thinks we should go to a place so we don't have the hassle of things but i really want it in the yard opinions?
has anyone looked into the cost of both to see which way it works out to be cheaper?

My family generally throws all of our parties (showers, birthday, anniversary, etc...) at the house. We BBQ, or make our own food. I'm pretty sure it comes out cheaper than having it in a restaurant...and there's no limit to how long people can stay (good and bad )

Re: those of you throwing birthday parties in the yard?
I started out planning on hiring a caterer - for 100 adults and 20 kids it would be over 2000 - for ONLY hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, sausage and peppers, and some BBQ chicken - oh and salads. I priced about 20 places too - this was the best price that I got.
I spoke to my cousin about this - I was going to book the caterer - he is a fireman - and spoke to one of the other fireman who is also a chef. He is going to come here to BBQ for us for 4 hours - they will bring the firehouse BBQ and we will do it that way.
I will be buying and making all the food myself. In the long run it will probably save me close to 500. I don't work so it's easy for me to do.

Re: those of you throwing birthday parties in the yard?
We always have parties at home. We either bbq or make our own. Lately we have been ordering different types of heros from Fireside. They actually have them already cut and placed in a nice basket so it looks really nice. It makes it easy for me in terms of clean up. My family does tend to stay long though so having it on a Sunday might be a better option if you don't want everyone staying too long.

I generally do a mix of catering and homemade. The only problem with BBQing is someone needs to man the grill all day...I try to put all the effort into the party beforehand, so I can enjoy it the day of (which is why I also hire a hostess).

Re: those of you throwing birthday parties in the yard?
I am doing the Christening in our back yard and we are having it catered. By the time we rent tables, chairs and food, it's just a tiny bit less that having it at place. The caterer is pretty reasonble if you need one.
I also thought about doing a BBQ one, but may save it for DD's first birthday. This place has great packages - Country Roads

Re: those of you throwing birthday parties in the yard?
Im lucky b/c my neighbor has a catering company. We do the food and she helps us out with all the extras.....We are so lucky b/c our neighbors always get involved and its a real community event. This year we are doing a pig roast for DH's 40th bday..and then we'll have a big kid thing for Cadens 1st bday.
