Just because your kids and their friends have nothing to do doesn't give them the OK to go through my yard

I am sitting on my couch relaxing. All my windows are open and then all of a sudden my dog goes crazy. He's barking up a storm. So I jump to go see whats the matter and it's the two girls from down the block and about 5 of their friends just walking through my yard. I yelled at them that I would call the cops if they didnt get the heck out of my yard. One of their little friends started being a wise arse and stepped over my property line and said well this isn't your yard. I said really how do you know that I do or dont own that piece of land and what you have done is considered trespassing. So get away from my lot or I will call the police that you are tresspassing.

About 5 minutes later the father comes down the block and knocks on my door. Of course my pup goes crazy. I explained to him how I dont want them in my yard. He tells me how they are just kids and they have nothing to do around here. Excuse me that is not my problem. Just because they have nothing to do does not give them the right to just walk through my yard. Then I proceeded to tell him how I had to call the cops twice regarding my lawn lights constantly being destroyed. Guess what he tells me - oh that is just so friveralous I dont see why you would call the police over some silly lawn lights. I said well lets see i had 2 lights that cost $30 a piece that needed to be replaced and I had christmas decorations destroyed. Yea that warranted a call. Then I come home from work and now 3 lights are fully destroyed which now means another $90 down the drain to replace them. I am sick and tired of having property damange. The fathers reaction - oh well they are just kids.

So apparently if you live in a neighborhood where their is nothing to do it's ok to just walk through someone's yard, spook the dog, destroy property because well your just a kid

if they have nothing to do, take them to the mall or movies. so i guess it gives them the right to go on peoples property. that is wrong

next time you call the cops I would point them in the direction of their father, specifically!! what a dumbass, no wonder the kids have no problem destroying other people's property Chat Icon . look what a great role model he is!

This just happened to ILs this week. The kids (and I use the word loosely, they are 13 or so) were bored and wanted to play tag or Wolf or some crap, so the one kid climbs MILs fence & hides in the bushes right under her Br window. DH went out to yell at them & the kid mouthed They off to him. He went next door to talk to the kids' father and he was like, "Well they are home from school, what do you want me to do?" DH was like, "Well they are trespassing and we have big dogs that could bite. Really they need to stay out of our yard, it is not a public park." The kids' father told DH he was overreacting, and that the kids can play wherever they want Chat Icon

So when they came back into MILs yard DH turned the sprinklers on them.

WHAT overreacting. I would hope the dog would bite the kid in the butt and then lets see who overreacts.

Thats what I should do - pull the hose on them Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am stunned the father knocked on your door because you told the kids to get off your property. Gees, it's a wonder so many kids are so disrepectful.

My dad would have came over to your house too - to apologize profusely after slapping me upside the head!!!! That is nuts - even if they made a mistake or whatever - you made it CLEAR that they were trespassing and that should have been the end of the story!

Tell me about it. OMG my mother would have broken my legs and then made me walk down the block and apologized for spooking the dog and running through the yard.

But to go to someone's house defending their actions makes me want to call the cops on him for stupidity

Kids are kids? Not all kids do this. I know I didnt. My mother would have had my a$$ in a sling and I wouldnt be able to sit til this day. Maybe people need to keep more of a watchful eye on their kids - yes even teens.

Re: Just because your kids and their friends have nothing to do doesn't give them the OK to go through my yard

UghChat Icon My parents used to live in massapequa park and their house was backed up against Sunrise Mall. They had a gate that opened up to the parking lot so it was super convenient for them to just slip over to the mall without driving.

Well, the neighborhood kids found this out and they decided they no longer had to walk ALL THE WAY around the block to get to the mall, they'd just trapse through my parent's yardChat Icon Well when they were getting ready to sell, they had several open houses and my dad had to speak to the kids SEVERAL times (the same group of kids) to tell them that it was unacceptable for them to go in and out through the yard.

They just don't get it!!!!

Re: Just because your kids and their friends have nothing to do doesn't give them the OK to go through my yard

assuming you dont have a fence, can you put small posts with rope up for now so it's more obvious that it's your property and not theirs to wander across? maybe a keep off sign too?

can you set up a webcam or something to tape them damaging the lights?

Re: Just because your kids and their friends have nothing to do doesn't give them the OK to go through my yard

Great suggestions. We dont have a fence and have talked about getting one. I think this is going to be a more incentive on getting one. Until then the rope idea I think is a great idea. But an electric fence would definately rock Chat Icon

The father also said when he was knocking on my door that by calling the cops and getting mad at the kids isnt going to do anything but just add fuel to their fire. They'll just be more inclined to do something. W T F Chat Icon He said I should just get to know the neighborhood kids.

Yea I'd like to get to know them so I know who to blame when they trespass or something is damaged

What kind of dog do you have? I would call the police, b/c if god forbid something happens and the dog hurts one of the children. That way you would have the report that said you warned them. That might help, IMO.
