I always assume that we have so much less than everyone else that I'm surprised when I learn about people who DO qualify.
The only person who asked me so far was my mom, but she already knew we didn't qualify, so as soon as she said it she apologized for rubbing it in.

We haven't gotten many questions about it, but we usually just say we don't qualify and leave it at that.
ETA: I don't feel like my husband or I are bragging either.
This is exactly how we have handled it and like you, very few people have asked.

I got into a HUGE fight with my DH over this since he hates when I discuss money with ANYONE.
The conversation was with my Dad and Brother. I have no idea how I was supposed to avoid it.
