those of you who had hemorrhoids after delivery - TM
I gave birth on Friday night and I have one big one. I am putting some ointment on it that the dr gave me, but I think that it just treats the discomfort.
How do I get rid of this? How long will it take?
It's uncomfortable, but I am more freaked out by it than anything else. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom!

My sister had it. 3 to be exact.. totalling the size of a golf ball! The doc told her that she *might* need surgery to remove it.. but in the end, all she got was a shot to minimize the size. I think it lasted for a month.

Which dr. did she deal with, her obgyn?

You usually see a Colon/Rectal surgeon. They usually will "go down" a bit after delivery. It may take a few weeks. You can do the home remedies to see if it works.
Removing them requires an actual surgery. It's not a quick and easy procedure.
There are several options available to you. I will suggest you see the surgeon and discuss your options.

Let me tell ya...those suckers always come back! They go down for a while, but come back the very next time you struggle to go (as most of us women do, unfortunately). I am 5.5 years and 2 years post delivery, and those bad boys come back to literally bite me in the azz every so often. Never had them before deliveries. Add that to the ever-growing list of things that our children owe us for BIG time when they are older!

I had them bad after delivery. It probably took 2 weeks for them to really go away. I was always afraid to go to the bathroom too but somehow my body made things soft enough that I could pass them without too much pain. Make sure you don't eat anything too binding...stay away from bananas, rice and breads! Keep with the fruit & veggies, if you can. And don't forget the prune juice...it helps!

Besides Prep H, I used Tucks medicated pads.. the pads help shrink it, and the cream helped it go away sooner. It took a good 2-3 weeks though. (Beware, the Prep H cream stinks!!! ) If it doesn't get better on it's own, then I'd seek out the Dr. HTH

also it helps to put your coolie in a hot/warm bath for 15-20 mins 3 times a day or you can use a sitz bath that is basically a tub for your coolie you put on the toilet-it will help with your epsiotomy too if you had one.
good luck, i had those and i still have fissures from my dd's birth 15 months ago

Uugh. I was really hoping you'd all say that they went away on their own and stayed away.... I will follow the home remedies and HOPEFULLY they'll go down a bit!
