Those still working remote
Has your company given a timeline as to when you will be returning? Ours recently said they will reevaluate during the summer. I have talked to a few others and 1 said Sept while some said they still aren't sure.

No idea, they won't tell us and to be honest it's getting old and a bit ridiculous at this point.

Re: Those still working remote
The latest update said September. I think as more people are vaccinated there is less of an excuse to stay remote. But my company is not requiring you to get it.
I work for a company with 22k employees. They have already announced real estate reductions, so even when we do go back it will only be a few days a week. We've been successful for a year at being remote, let me just stay in my leggings

Those still working remote
They are going to start making decisions about non location dependent staff sometime in July. Honestly I’d rather stay home forever at this point. There is no reason for my department to be in the office. We can do our jobs from home and quality of life has been so much better since I am not rushing around like a lunatic anymore ( dropping off for before care, taking 30 mins to get to the office, dodging traffic back home to get DD for aftercare, getting her from school if she gets sick, etc) working from home has been a game changer!

Those still working remote
Every month since Sept. we've been told we are going back the next month (In Aug they said return right after Labor Day, then they said beginning of Oct., then early Nov etc.). Some people have returned to the office a couple of days per week since Sept, but not everyone and not me. Last month we were told May 24th is absolutely the date when we will return to work (yeah, sure lol). I won't mind going back, but at this point, I really would prefer another summer at home.

Those still working remote
At the end of August 2020, we were told we could go in 1 day per week. If we needed to, we could go in more often. Sometimes, I need to print things to send out, or I am expecting a Fed Ex delivery, so I may go in more than 1 day per week. But, in general, it's just been the one day. There has been no indication of when the number of days per week would increase. I have a feeling it will be at least through the summer.
When the pandemic started, I was really worried that I would HATE working from home. But, I really don't hate it! I love that there's no commute! In an ideal world, I would go in 1 to 3 days per week, as needed.

Re: Those still working remote
I've been working remote a few days a week for years. Most of the people I support are in other states anyway, so there's really no need for me to be in an office building, just so I can remotely support someone out of state. I'm hoping and planning on WFH close to 100% from now on.

Those still working remote
Last June they started having us back 2 days a week in 2 shifts. My group didn't start going back until October (the president was thinking people weren't coming back because they were scared but they were just more efficient at home with the rules put in place).
I went back in October and November 1x a week from 9-2:30 since I had to pick up my kids, as did my boss. We haven't been back since November and nobody is pushing right now so we'll see what happens. I don't think there will be another push again at this point until the fall.

Those still working remote
My DH continues to work from home. He can technically go in if he wants, but he needs to verify with his team how many people will be going in on any given day.
My DH likes working from home in the sense that it is saving us money in terms of childcare costs. I personally would prefer my DS to go to aftercare as I think the social interaction is important, especially since my DS immediately watches TV or plays on the switch the minute he gets home.

Re: Those still working remote
We started 4 hours 1x per week by request in late April 2020. We then went to 1 full day 1x per week required unless a request was made to be exempted. There is a committee meeting to discuss further changes next week.
DH's job on the the other hand announced that the company's office location in New York is permanently closing in August/September. No word yet on whether or not he will continue to work from home, be asked to transfer out of state, (TX or LA), or be let go.

Hopefully he will be allowed to WFH unless you guys are looking to relocate.

Re: Those still working remote
I was laid off, but my old job also closed the NY office. NY real estate is just too expensive. They were looking at a co-working situation last spring anyway.
My husband's job reduced their office space from 3 floors to 1, so he is full-time remote now, even though the whole department is vaccinated. They just go into different sites if needed, but the day-to-day is at home.
Other friends of mine have said tentatively September 2021, with some positions being full-time remote.
A job interview I had in January said they were staying home until march & then evaluating, so I wonder what they ended up deciding.

Re: Those still working remote
I can honestly say that if they told me I have to be full time, permanently, remote, I'd look for another job. I know plenty of people who are going into an office- at least part time.
I know I am in the minority, but I don't' do well at a home. I have a tiny house. I have no space for an office. I'm in my bedroom all the time.
There is no delineation between work life and home life. My daughter is older and in school or day or with friends, extra circular activities etc. I have nothing to do in this house.
Sitting here day in and day out for a year with no human interaction of co-workers and clients has destroyed my mental health to the point where this is the closest I have ever come in my life to considering meds for depression and/or anxiety. This is no way to live- at least for me. I don't care if I have to go work in retail or something- my mental health is more important at this point than money. Which is a shame because I worked my ass off to get to this salary and point in my career.. But I never signed up to sit in a bedroom 5 days a week with just me and a laptop screen. That's no career IMO.

Likely September. Most will be vaccinated, kids will be back in school. I know many people back in office. I’ve had interviews w several companies and summer/fall seems to be the consensus

Hopefully this will end for you soon. I feel like being thrown into this really clarified for people what kind of environment works best for them.
My husband & I don't like other people, so we don't miss the coworkers. ( I am job hunting, but looking for remote jobs) I do miss 2 coworkers, that I was close too, but in general I don't miss spending my day with strangers and all the interruption, noise, smells, and moods that come with it.
My husband does miss the work/ life separation- they IM *all* day & night long now. In the past, it was only for true emergencies & no one really stopped him when he was trying to catch the train. I feel like I never had separation anyway, so if I had to work constantly, I preferred doing it without shoes.

Those still working remote
My husband works for LIRR, he’s been fully remote in his position since March. No time frame when or if they will go back. He’s able to do his job 100% remote. We would love for him to stay remote especially for childcare purposes. His will all come down to what the unions agree on though. I’ve worked the whole time in a hospital. Any employee though (like those that work in HR) are still remote as of now

Omg I feel EXACTLY the same way. Before the plague, I always wished I could “work from home” but after a few months I realized how unhealthy it is for me. Your home is supposed to be your safe haven where you look forward to going to and relaxing with your family. A house is not supposed to also be an office and a school. And I got lazy. And fat. And wore the same 3 sweats for months.
I know most people love it and that is great for them. But since I started going back into the office I have finally felt human again.

Those still working remote
dh's job said sometime at the end of the summer/fall. He's a project manager and is hoping management positions are given the option to stay remote. He has his own office set up here and works alot better/harder from home. It seems that their productivity reports are pretty positive showing that people are more willing to answer calls/emails outside work hours now compared to when they went into the office. He said he would rather be on and off calls until 7pm and be home all day, then clock out at 5pm and shut off his phone.
I really hope he can stay home. We would have a much easier job of getting DD to school in the morning if he was here

Those still working remote
My DHs job made them fully remote back in August so he will be permanently WFH. I don’t see me going back anytime soon and the only this they said is it was be very loose. We have offices nationwide and none are back yet so I don’t see the NY offices opening until fall at the earliest.

Re: Those still working remote
We have been back at 50% since June. We are still that way but now that Courts opened as of today I wouldn't be surprised if they start having us back fully which is annoying because at this point I would rather we do this until September.
How the tune has changed. At first I was dying WFH but now I have a groove and I grew to like it. I like the 50% thing. It's the best of both worlds right now.

Those still working remote
I have been doing the 50% thing since last May. I have my own office at work so they said anyone with their own office can come in and shut the door. I agree that it is the best of both worlds and I hope it can continue permanently. Unfortunately where I work face time is prized and when you’re not there in person you definitely miss out when spur of the moment strategic planning and meetings happen. Now that many are vaccinated they have said anyone that has been vaccinated can come in to work whenever they want, but there has been no mandate... yet...

50% would be a dream come true right now.
Actually just being given any free choice and treated as an adult would be amazing....

I think there will always need to be quarantines for the foreseeable future even with vaccination and same for kids in schools. I think working parents will be much more productive given the option. Instead of calling in for a quarantine they will be able to work

I don't understand though- if you have the ability to work from home but are in an office working, why would you have to take days off to quarantine with your kids? Just work from home when needed.
Prior to this mess I was in an office every day as was my staff- but any time somebody was not feeling great, had to stay home with a sick kid, had a child care issue etc, they just worked from home. It's not all or nothing. Work in an office and if needed, work from home.
