Did you use the box spring? The mattress and box spring together is SO high for DS, it almost looks silly in the room. The mattress is even higher than the night stand. The guy in Sleepys said that all mattresses now are made that thick...is this true? I am thinking about taking the box spring away for now. What are you ladies doing??

DS has a box spring under his mattress. We got a cheap mattress, so it isn't that tall. I figure, he falls asleep just about anywhere, so I didn't get him a $$ mattress. He can get a cushier one when he's older. He's 6.5 and he does have to sort of climb up a bit, but he's used to it now.
If you put a sturdy sheet of plywood on the frame, you wouldn't need a boxspring. You do need more than just the frame and the 2 or so cross members. The mattress isn't designed to support itself in the center.

We haven't moved DD to a twin bed yet, but we are going to use a bunky board instead of a box spring so it isn't as high. I would rather she was closer to the floor so that when her and her sister are getting on and off the bed it isn't as high...

We just converted it this week and it looked ridiculous with the box spring so we took it off and put it under her bed for now. We plan on getting a thin box spring (not sure of the exact name) that someone recommended to us.
