Those that have pets

Do you leave your DC's bedroom door open or closed when you are not home?

We have a cat...we leave DS's door open all the time except when he is sleeping...then it is closed. The cat doesn't ever go in there though, but I still feel safer. How is CHH???

Re: Those that have pets

i have a cat. i leave DS's door open all day and encourage the cat to sleep in DS's room (it used to be the cat's room to sleep in). since DH has allergies, i want to expose DS to the cat as much as possible in the hopes that he won't get the same allergies. i'm not concerned about safety at all with the cat and baby

Re: Those that have pets

We have a cat and the door always stays open. But like PP said, we close it at night when he is sleeping.

Re: Those that have pets

I am just concerned that the cats with jump in his crib. To me that is discusting since he puts his face there and they walk in there litter. I felt bad for the dog this morning though. We just moved and she is still a bit skiddish she wanted to be in DS' room when I left for work.

Re: Those that have pets

We leave it open. When we leave the house, we gate our dog in our bathroom (he can't be left out... he'd destroy the house). But otherwise we leave the door open and they have free roam over the house (we have 2 cats also). The cats don't go in his crib, so we don't worry. Chat Icon

We leave it open. We have 1 cat, and she goes in there all the time...

When we first set up the nursery, before DD was born, the cat tried jumping in the crib. I used a trick a friend (who is also a vet technician) told me and I lined the crib with aluminum foil...cats hate the feel/sound. The first time she jumped on that, she froze. I had to pick her up out of it, but she never went back in!!!

Casey won't go in Ali's room unless we are in there, or if Ali is in there and she feels a concern to check on her Chat Icon

But if you leave the door open is there some type of netting that you can put over the crib (like a tent) that would keep the cats out?

We have a dog. DS's door is always closed. Peanut will usually only sleep in our room anyway.

Open except when DD is sleeping then it is closed - I'm afraid one of the two cats might try to go in there and sleep with her since they are very cuddly animals.

My vet told us about that trick when they were scratching our furniture- unfortunately my two babies happen to LOVE the foil and think is a toyChat Icon

Closed.

Bubba has a sensitive stomach so I need to minimize the potential damage when I'm not home.

Closed. I have 4 dogs and they would trash his room. I actually leave all the BR doors closed when we are not home.

Re: Those that have pets

We have 4 cats. When we go out we leave all the doors in our apt open. We do close DDs door at night, but the cats are put in the basement at night because they try to scratch their way through our doors if we leave them upstairs.

ETA: our cats rarely go in DDs room even when the door is open. They do however sleep on our bed all the time.
