Those who have been to Italy, I need your help again!

Okay, here's the dilemma: The focus is Austria, but we will be spending three nights in Venice (we chose that city in Italy because it is easily reached from where we'll be in Austria), but anyway, now I'm thinking of cutting a night from Austria and making it four nights in Italy. My question is this, do I do two nights in Venice, two nights in Florence? Or do I just take a day trip to Florence from Venice?
Thanks!!

Do not go to Florence on a Monday. Everything will be closed. (Guess what day I was in Florence Chat Icon )

I did both Florence and Venice as day trips. But, as I mentioned, eveything in Florence was closed.

Oh no! I'm sorry that happened to you. Thanks for telling me that!! Luckily it won't be a Monday cause I would have been super pizzed if I was there and everything was closed.

IMO I would do 2 nights in Venice and 2 nights in Florence. Venice is gorgeous but way overpriced.

IMO you don't need more than a day in Venice. We ran out of things to do after a day so we hopped on a train to Switzerland at night - we were there less than 24 hours but it was so worth it. If anything I'd spend 2 days in Florence. Not sure if there are any other cities close by too that you could go to - maybe ask your travel agent. BTW I'm so jealous of you!!!

Over 2 nights in Venice is a waste of time IMO. A definite must see but you don't need a whole lot of time there. I'd visit Tuscany if you have the time.

Yes, there is so much more to see in Florence. You can spend an entire day in the Uffizi, then there's the David, the Gold Market, etc.

Can you do a day in Tuscany too or at least a day trip to a vineyard? We went to the Verrazano Vineyard... yes, like the bridge and it was great and so beautiful.

If I had to do it all over again... two days in Florence, one in Tuscany, one day and night in Venice... you need to see a Venitian sunset.

I agree with everyone else - Venice can be done in a day. I'd spend more time in Florence....it's awesome there.

I would say do 2 nights in each. My friend and I spent 6 nights total between Rome, Venice and Florene and Venice and Florence are both breathtaking and very different from each other. I think you owe it to yourself to spend equal time in both cities! I really loved Florence :) Italy is gorgeous , Enjoy!

I'd spend two nights in each place. I loved Venice and Florence. They were gorgeous. When we were in Venice, we took a short boat ride to Murano, which was nice. We went to one of the places where they make the famous glass. I don't think you need more than 2 days in Venice.

I would definitely go to Florence. It's such a beautiful city. I did not really care for Venice and was ready to leave after a day. I would split the time and spend a couple of days in Florence.

Re: Those who have been to Italy, I need your help again!

I just got back from my honeymoon there 2 weeks ago. I would do 2 in Venice and 2 in Florence. Florence has some great art museums (and shopping!), and Venice is great but I don't think you need 4 days there.

I loved FLorence!! It was the best city in Italy IMO. I spent a full day in Venice, and I was ready to leave at night. Definitely spend as much time as you can in Florence.

If you want to hit the beaches, I would recommend staying in Positano and taking a day trip to Capri. Its a 30 minute ferry and in Positano, you are on the main land and can drive to Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello, etc...

Italy is beautiful! you will have a wonderful time.

Re: Those who have been to Italy, I need your help again!

Thanks everyone! I think I've decided on three nights in Florence (in order to make time for a day trip to a vineyard in the Tuscan countryside) and one night in Venice. I'm a bit bummed that I won't have time for a trip to Murano while in Venice, but I'd rather go to the vineyard and it came down to chosing between the two. Thanks again for your help.
