Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
What type of sippy did you find worked better with the younger ones. I have so many kinds and Rylan isn't loving any of them.

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
We had success with the First Years take and toss ones after first, mainly because I think it was lighter and had no valve so it was easier to use.
Now, he uses the regular First Years ones. He also has a straw cup he uses for juice/water (b/c I'm a freak)
I never used cups with "bottle like" nipples.

We have 2 Nuby ones...maybe i'll try again with that. The ones without valves come out faster...right? I think that part of the problem...the water comes out to fast for him.

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
We used some nubby cups that I found at Walgreens, really basic nothing fancy like a $1 a piece then we moved very quickly to straw cups b/c I didn't want her on sippys for very long.

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
We havent taken away the bottle but my goal is to be down to just 1 bottle by 15 months (bedtime - his fave)
We use the gerber cups...but honestly DS isnt picky, I gave him advent the other day and it took him a minute but he drank from them.
I will say that before starting milk, when I tried to replace a bottle with the sippy, he would sometimes resist. Since starting milk he doesnt seem to care as much! Which is what my ped said would probably happen!

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
DS is now 16 mos however he has been using the same sippy cups for months now. We use the playtex BPA free ones - both the spout and the straw. He likes both. I use the straw one mostly when out b/c i can cover it at home i tend to use the spout b/c when he gets bored he likes to turn the cup upside down and shake it until the liquid comes out which does not work well with the straw
When we first gave him a sippy (i can't remember when but around 9-10 mos) the gerber ones were the best. He HATED the born free ones - i tried them myself and you can't get anything out of them!

This is what Rylan does...he would rather shake and bang it instead of drinking from it.
We used the Born Free last night and I felt like he had to bite the spout in order for anything to come out...he doesn't really get it yet.

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
We took the bottle away at 12 1/2 months. She always liked the nuby straw, but she started with the regular nuby with handles when she was 6 months. It took a lot of cups and a lot trying to find one she loved.

Oh, but that's ok. You'll need to stick with one for a bit to let him get the hang of it. I'd try it for at least a week consistently before you give up on it (be it Born Free or another type).

Born Free. They are the only sip cups that DS would use until he was on straws. He transitioned at about 12 - 13 mos.

Re: Those who took away the bottle around 15 months or younger...
Both my girls used straw sippy's. It didn't matter what brand they weren't picky. We took the bottle away at 12 months old wtih my first DD and at 11 months old with our second DD.

i agree, give it some more time. Athan has the 9 month Born Free Sippy and at first he would just bang it, toss it, bite the nipple part. I took the handles off now forcing him to hold it like a cup so now he doesn't play with it as much and he's got the hang of actually "drinking" from it now rather than just biting down on it - although I think the biting part has to do with teething because he does that to everything!

I guess that's my problem. Sometimes i'll fill about 3 of them and let him play with them trying them all out. Now that I think about it there's no way he'll learn like that. Thanks for the tip!!!

Your right about both parts...giving it more time and no handles!!!
