Those who took the 3 hour test...

How did you eat before your test?

My OB told be to stock up on carbs and ice cream for 3 days prior and then fast for 12 hours prior.

However, wouldn't it make more sense just to eat how I normally eat and see how my body processes it?

I can call them to discuss, but I wanted your opinions.

Thanks!

My OB didn't give me any instructions. I ate normally for the days prior to the test and since the Quest website said it wasn't necessary to fast, I ate some eggs for breakfast that morning.

For my one hour - my fasting glucose was 66 and an hour later it was 167.

I ate how I normally ate and fasted from 11 pm (bedtime) until the test at 8 am. I wasn't given any special instructions either- the only thing the lab told me was to stop eating about 12 hours before.

Good luck! Bring lots of snacks/cookies for when the test is finished. I was crashing pretty bad by the third hour!

I ate normally in the days before the test, as well. I think my last snack was at 7pm the night before and I was having my 1st blood drawn at 7:15am the following morning...GL!

I did the 12 hour fast, I didn't eat anything differently before then.Chat Icon

One thing I would recommend is to have it done (if possible) first thing in the morning. This way, I only had to deal with the many hours of fasting overnight. It was still hard but bearable this way. I would have been a lot more miserable if it had to have been done later in the day. It was nice to get it over with.

I ate normally all week. Actually I had two slices of pizza for dinner the night before. then I fasted for 12 hours. They give you more of that drink than they did the first time! Chat Icon blah!

good luck! Chat Icon
