Those who used a sound machine...WWYD?
So DS is 2 and we still use his sound machine (water sounds). When we lived in the city, it got loud in the morning and we thought it helped. Now that we're out here, it's much quieter so he probably doesnt need it. In fact, he has slept without it before so I know he doesnt need it. But if he were to be getting a new sibling that would be sleeping in the next room (hypothetically of course ), would it be better to keep it so it drowns out middle of the night wakeups?

hmmm that's a good question! i can only tell you that my DD would probably sleep without hers but we still use it b.c i just had a baby in july. our house is pretty small and his room is next to hers. they both have sound machines for this reason. he wakes up during the night and i don't need her getting up too-so to me, it was worth keeping it for sleep. it travels well too so it's not like a major inconvenience in that way.

I still use one for my DS's who are six and four! It definitely helps keep them sleeping longer, DH gets up for work at 5:00 and their room is right next to the bathroom where he gets ready, I know he would wake them up if there wasn't some white noise in their room.
I would keep it until his hypothetical sibling is sleeping through the night. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

We have never used one - just the music part from the Tiny Love Mobile, but I am planning on buying 2 soon. One for DD and one for the new baby's room. Their rooms will be right next to each other and I am already dreading how DD may be woken up by the baby.

If he doesn't need one I wouldn't use it. We didn't use one for Sarah and she never was woken up by Andy when he was a baby, and we have a small house. Their bedrooms are small and right next to each other.
We do still use one for Andy (he's 3.5) but otherwise he wakes up about 5:30 when our neighbor with a noisy Harley leaves for work.

We don't use it to help DS fall asleep - he can sleep fine without it. We use it so we don't have to be as quiet and we will continue to use it when DD comes.
I thought you were making an announcement and I was because you are so skinny you would have to be about 4 weeks pregnant

Re: Those who used a sound machine...WWYD?
We stopped using it (actually it was a CD of rain played on repeat) when we started using the AC last season, since the AC drowned out all noises. When we stopped using the AC and turning up the heat it seemed so quiet, I was worried DS was going to start waking up when DH got up at 5:30 for work. We bought the $50 one on Amazon. I like it a lot. I know that DS can sleep without it but since we are having another DS in March, I figure we may as well just keep using it. We'll get another one for the new baby's room as well.

I would say yes!!! Both of my boys have sound machines, and I think it really helps to drown out sounds...actually I know it does...because when they are both up, and I go into one of their rooms, I really don't hear the other

We still use one for Jack - I know he can sleep without it (bc DH has forgotten to put it on a few times) but I have to say I think it really helps now that we have a new baby in the house. Thankfully Jack hasn't been woken up by the baby yet.
