Those with children??? Furniture question

What type of couch should you buy if you have 2 kids. DS is one right now but i know in the future him and his sister are going to be all over my furniture and I dont want to buy anything that is going to mess up quickly. So what type of material should you buy if you have 2 kids when it comes to a couch?

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

I'm planning on leather. When we move into the new house I want to buy a leather sectional for the family room. Right now we have a leather couch and I'm so glad. DD has spilled milk on it so many times and it just wipes right off. Before DD I wasn't a fan of leather. Now I love it! I thought about microfiber too, but heard it can be static-y in the winter and I cannot stand static. We have a microfiber glider and I do notice the static when I get up from sitting in it.

we just got microfiber from bobs.
it's not my favorite- but it was cheap - which I wanted, knowing I would want to replace it in a few years anyway.

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

not microfiber! however, we do live. that means, i don't restrict bottles, snacks or crayons. to be honest, this couch was ruined BEFORE i had my second kid (11 months after the first) so, it was really baby #1 that ruined it! it's a disaster!

Lesather. Although DS who is almost one got ahold of a pen and wrote on it, but it came out. If you look super close you can see it.

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

I had a leather sofa before DS. It's a dark burgundy color so it's easy to clean. It will not be replaced until DS and potential other kid are older.

I do not let DS eat on furniture. I have strick rules. He is over 1 and it's a mess when he eats.

But I had spilled milk on it. I just wipe it with a damp cloth and this perfect.

Leather!!!!!!! Didn't want them at first but DH really did so I agreed. Now that we have DS I LOVE them.....He gets everything all over them and I just wip them clean!!

ETA: he eats on them all the time so it gets very messy.

I had Microfiber and I HATED it. Yes it was very comfy, but I swear it attracted dirt and pet hair. I was forever cleaning it. I got rid of it and bought leather. I am very happy with it.

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

i have slipcovered furniture. I just throw into washing machine.

I do clean all pieces at the same time so that if they fade, it won't be off.

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

We have chocolate brown microfiber couches. It wipes really well with spills that the kids make, but sometimes it's a PITA to clean bc our dog has light hair and sheds like crazy. He's not allowed on furniture, but it still gets on if he rubs against or if it's on our clothes.

Re: Those with children??? Furniture question

Leather if you don't have cats or dogs. Hair sticks like glue to microfiber! Not to mention cat claws will ripp the leather up!

Go with microfiber if you got the pillows with the washable covers. Ie. you can unzip and throw them in the wash. Make sure you get the lighter colors as those don't tend to fade so quickly after a few wash.
