Those with DC with bdays right around the holidays...

DS was born right before Christmas----I am trying to figure out how to handle his birthday---do it early, late, on time? How to make that time special for him with everything else going on?! Any tips/hints?

not me, but my nephew is 12-18.

my sister has always had a party early, like the first week in december. no one's ever had a problem with it.

she will usually have a cake for him on his actual b-day for family.

DC were born 11/24, this year it falls on the day before Thanksgiving. We are celebrating the Saturday before, on 11/20. If I were in your shoes, I might wait until after the holidays otherwise I feel like it will get lost in the holiday madness, KWIM? Also there will be something to look forward to after the holidays are over. Either that or a few weeks before. I wouldn't do it like the week before Christmas.

ETA - meaning a party, not celebrating on the actual day, of course

DD is 12/27. Chat Icon

I try to make her birthday extra special. I normally have her party after the holidays because I'm off from work and I can spoil her more.

These poor kids. She's only 3.5 now, but I know when she get's older she will be upset about it, especially since DC will be born in July.

Re: Those with DC with bdays right around the holidays...

For what it's worth: my birthday is 12/30 and I always enjoyed the fact that we celebrated my birthday on Christmas with a birthday cake for dessert. I had all my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents there to celebrate. I loved it as a kid! I also had a separate party for my friends and would do something over the school vacation. As I got older, though, I hated having a bday so close to the holidays and I jokingly "changed" my birthday to March 30th one year. (I just picked a random date). I would def. do something special that is separate from the holidays, but don't forget to celebrate it on the holidays too.

Re: Those with DC with bdays right around the holidays...

My grandfather is December 4th, my mom is the 10th, I'm the 11th, and my sister is the 27th.

We always had separate celebrations for our birthdays and it didn't matter what was going on with x-mas. Even my sister being on 12/27, we always had a party 2 days after Christmas, or on the nearest weekend.

My mom always made it a point to make birthdays and holidays separate so we felt special on that day.
