Those with DH who works a night or later shift/crazy hours?

I don't really know where to put this but if you have a DH who works a night shift, when do you make dinner? I have started to make dinner in the morning but then no one gets a hot meal. I guess I could make and then he could take leftovers for dinner the next day, but I feel bad:) My DH shift is going to be constantly changing and right now he is working 3-11 the next two weeks and most of the summer. Do you even make dinner? I feel like it is a waste to just make dinner for me and DS.

It depends on his hours but when he was leaving early I would make it and he would take it the next day. Mondays he always took a sandwich.
I thought it was more important for my kids to have a hot meal and sit at a table for dinner than DH

My DH is home by 10:30 most nights. I usually cool at least twice a week because I enjoy doing it, and then DS can have leftovers for a few nights while I just eat a salad.
Sometimes DH doesn't eat at work so he'll come home and eat a little bit of what I cook, but that's usually when he comes home earlier (around 9).

We eat a big lunch together. That is our dinner. Night for kids is usually something lunchy

DH works overnight shifts (7pm-7am). I don't get home till after he leaves......so we don't even try for anything. He'll usually eat later at work. I eat alone with DS.

DH is in the FDNY and his hours are all over the place. I don't get home until 6:15 at night.

If he's home during the day and willb e home that night, he cooks dinner. If I am home alone with the kids - I will make them something quick and either eat leftovers or a sandwich. If we both come home from work around 6pm - we usually do leftovers or take out depending on how hungry we are.

I wish I was a better planner!

I dont. we dont have dinners together often.
so i crash at my moms and eat there or my sisters.

It depends what mood I'm in and if school is in session. FH works from 3-11 and I work from 8-5. If school is in session, I'll only get home at 10pm so no dinner is made. If school isn't in session, I try to cook 2-3 times a week and make leftovers. He'll heat them up either for lunch at home or dinner at work. Sometimes, I just end up eating with my parents though.

I usually cook on sundays and have enough leftovers to last us until Friday usually. This way its quick and easy to re-heat.

SO might work from 7am to 10pm.

i make dinner as soon as i get home from work, like "normal"
he eats when he gets home. i know what you mean about feeling bad about it. if i didn't cook at the normal hour, no one would eat a half-decent meal.

i have one night a week that we actually eat together.. so i cook for us then.

the other nights i cook and he takes it with him or eats when he gets home. he doesnt mind!

MIne works overnight 7 pm to 7 am .. So I make dinner as soon as I get home from work ... Sometimes, will make 2 meals so we're not so rushed the next night.

I just cooked in advance and we heated up the leftovers. Now that he is home for dinner (leaves around 10 pm) I find it overwhelming to cook everyday LOL. Although, I admit it is nice to have a freshly cooked meal.

I cook early, me and the kids eat and he will just heat it up or eat some left overs.
