Those without kids...
Do you get annoyed if the neighbors behind you have a swing set that is close to your backyard? You have a PVC fence...and they have a slight hill, so the swing set may be higher then the fence. Would you have wished they put it on the side of their house, or would the far back or their yard be OK?

Re: Those without kids...
if they had another place they could possible put it where it wouldnt interfere with the other neighbors i would find it strange and annoying that they had to put it so close to my side.
cant hold me accountable for what their kids might witness/hear during my summer parties then! tooo bad.

Re: Those without kids...
Thanks for the input!!
Our yard is nothing but a BIG hill! There are 2 possible places to put the set we just got for DS. One, which would be completely and totally out of sight, from the BBQ, deck, anything, and would look silly b/c you can see it from the street. So the only other place we can put it would be the far back part of our yard, which the main part of our neighbors back yard. Our whole yard looks down to their yard b/c of all the hills. It's a wooden set...monkey bars and 3 swings, and a little platform for the slide. I just feel b/c they don't have kids, I don't want them thinking we did it to piss them off. That's the smallest part of the hill...it's not steep...and DH is going to build the legs into the ground, so it'll be almost flat to the level of their yard, but still there.....
They moved into their house last year, they are about our age, and before the fence was up we said hello and welcome to the hood and all that...but each time they are outside since then, they never wave back or anything to us. Or, for the rest of the hood either. So I don't want to be stepping on toes...KWIM?
Sorry for the rambeling post, but just wanted to see how everyone felt. DS is only 14 months so he won't be making alot of noise and all that... but I still don't want to cause anything I never had to deal with a swing set before LOL

its your yard, that you pay taxes on...put the set where you think is best and where it works for you. People who have problems with people being IN THEIR OWN YARD but still "too close to theirs" should not have purchased a home in family neighborhood where their yard backs up to someone elses.

Re: Those without kids...
LOL Thanks! We rent... and we may or may not leave the set behind when we move...we got it from a friend LOL. They own...and it's a brand new home... used to be woods when we moved in. We always wave and say hi...and they just give us the 'chin' hi. KWIM? lol. I thought they just didn't like us, b/c we rent or whatever, and sure enough all our other neighbors said they never say hello to them either. It's not even going to be right up next to the fence...like a good 20 feet...but still close enough... Just wanted to make sure I am not in the wrong first! Thanks!! lol

I think it's really nice of you to want to be considerate BUT whatever you do on YOUR yard is your choice.

Re: Those without kids...
Actually my neighbors have one that looks RIGHT into my backyard. It even has the little house on top. It doesn't annoy me that the kids play on it.
It annoys me that one of the kids is around 9 or 10 (he stays up at the top part) and looks into my backyard in the summer when i'm sunbathing, swimming or have friends over. It annoys me that he shot one of my guests with a water gun last summer. It annoys me that they're sitting there watching what we're doing.
I wish my fence was higher but I think its as high as it can be. I'm thinking of planting a tree.

I'd plant some trees.
When I was a kid, our snotty little 10 year old neighbor kids used to have a tree house that looked over into our yard just like how you described. They would throw pebbles at whoever was in our yard. One day it was my dad, he told them to stop. The second time the kid threw pebbles at him, my dad called the cops on the kid & it never happened again. The kid was crying thinking his parents were going to jail. I'll never forget it Nothing to do with Danicia's post but this reminded me of it.

Re: Those without kids...
It's your yard, you should be able to put it where you want.
I would rather hear/see kids playing on a swingset than listen to adults cursing and yelling at each other.

Your yard, do what you want. I can't possibly be annoyed over what someone else does in their yard unless it directly affected me.

Re: Those without kids...
I would plant some trees/bushes. If you really want to annoy them you could do what my neighbor did when I was a kid plant flowering bushes that bees would swarm me when I would swing. My father got the point and moved the swing set to somewhere near the house.
People with kids and just like people who entertain often outdoors would be a great neighbor if they considered where they entertain/put things in consideration to their neighbors but its not a must. I am more annoyed with my neighbor who has two small yappy white dogs that I can't go in my backyard until the dogs are put inside. We have very low fences put around our neighbors property so until I can put a high fence up or invest in bushes I am stuck with hiding inside our house until those little bastards are put inside.

Re: Those without kids...
My neighbors have a right to use their yard however they want. In the situation you describe, I really don't think I would care where you were putting it.
You did say you were renting, in which case the only people you might need to consult with are the landlords. If THEY have a preference, you have to abide by it. Otherwise, the neighbors really don't get to have input into how you use a yard you pay for.

Re: Those without kids...
Doesnt bother me. What bothers me is their kid trying to talk to me when she is on the swing set every time I go in the back yard. We have 6ft fences. lol.

Re: Those without kids...
I have the same situation in my yard. My neighbors (behind our house) looks directly into our yard and they have a 3 yr old girl. Everytime they do something in their yard; cut down trees, swing set, maint stuff, etc; they always come over and ask. I really appreciate them asking but its not necessary, but it just shows me they are not trying to be a-holes. So maybe do the same, just say "hey we are putting a swing set here, hope thats ok" Don't really give them an option, just more of a nice thing to do.
