thoughts on this daycare situation re: napping?
so we are daycare newbies. i put my DD (18months) in daycare for the first time about 3 weeks ago. The infants and toddlers are in the same big room but babies on one side and toddlers are on the other.
At home she will nap once a day for 2-3 hours. At daycare, she naps horribly. Everyday we pick her up, she has only napped 30 mins. one time its was 45 mins. for this past week, i have asked the teacher about the naps and she tells me everyday that the babies started crying and woke her up and that my DD sort of tries to go back to sleep but cant.
needless to say, she is cranky, whiney and crying for most of the day after my DH picks her up. I get home later and get to see her 1 hour a day and for that hour she is just so tired i end up putting her to bed early, cutting my time with her even shorter.
is there anything i can do or say about this? do you think my DD will adjust to the noise? I love the daycare but my DD really needs rest. Shes just not the same baby without it.

If your DD was 2.5 or 3 years old I would say let her adjust because she may be getting to the age where she would be dropping her nap anyway.
At 18 months, your little girl still NEEDS her nap. She needs it just as much as the babies on the other side of the room do!
Now there are things that you could help put in place to ensure that she is comfortable for her naps. A favorite blankie or lovie for example, and make sure she has good sleep habits at home, such as being able to fall esleep on her own -- not requiring being rocked or anything like that.
But other then that....if it continues to be an ongoing problem, I'd either start questioning the staff about how they could make the nap areas more age-specific, or start looking for other alternatives.

THanks for replying. My DD is a great sleeper outside of daycare. she has slept on her own since 3 months old. She naps at home great...but she does wake up during her nap, but just goes back to sleep herself. i guess at daycare she cant. she looks horrible when i get home...red eyes and bags. she used to be the most well rested baby bc i was so religious about her getting her naps in. i was one of those moms who schedule their plans around her naps to make sure she got quality sleep. but i guess i also did her a disadvantage since she cant sleep through noise.

Re: thoughts on this daycare situation re: napping?
OMG...my DS NEVER EVER slept at daycare . He went from 6mths to 18mths...I couldn't take it. No one believed me when I said what a great sleeper he was at home. If he did nap it was for 20 min. At home 2-3h! It never changed. I eventually had my DD and stole a woman from daycare to watch them...needless to say she was shocked what a great napper he was! LOL!

Re: thoughts on this daycare situation re: napping?
Our daycare moves the kids every 6 months on average but DS stayed in the infant room for longer because of low enrollment. He slept horribly in there and did a million times better in a room with set nap times. He still wakes up though if someone cries and hes a sound sleeper. What is the nap schedule for the next room? If it works better with dds schedule could you see if she could map there?

I could check. I know she is supposed to move to the next room in September though. Thank you.
I appreciate the responses!

Re: thoughts on this daycare situation re: napping?
Do they help her go back to sleep?
What does she sleep on/in? Crib or cot?
You could suggest they help her by maybe rubbing her back for a bit and see if that helps.
I worked in dc for a few years. Some kids sleep, some don't. Some just need to get used to the noise.
In my dc, the infant room and toddlers were separate, but only separated by an counter so very open. Sometimes when a baby cried the room toddler room was up and there was not much we could do about it.
Give it some time but suggest them to help her.

thanks! she sleeps in a crib. they say she wakes up but doesnt cry. just lies there sucking her thumb and babbling and so they leave her. your DC environment sounds just like mine - counter separating the two and open.
i hope she'lla djust soon.
