Throwing things on the floor..how to handle?

Megan is 10 months old now.

Everything I give to her whether shes in her highchair or the carriage, she throws it on the floor. I have the 3 strikes your out approach to it, I know she doesnt understand that yet, but I feel that I have to put a cap on it at least.

Sometimes I pick it up and hand it back to her and say no very sternly. Apparently, she just finds me funny. Nothing keeps her entertained because she just throws it.

Should I ignore it and just keep handing back or take it away? How do you handle this?

At 10 months I wouldn't try to teach her, she won't get it for a looooong time. I took the ignore it and hand it back until I was bored or frustrated approach.

my friend uses these thing that attach to the toy or bottle and then it attaches to her wrist or carrige so that she cant drop it on the floor only drop out of her hands within reach. they sell them at bbb . basically its like the pacifier holder that clips on to them but for toys or bottles.

I think your approach is good for her age- let her know it's not wrong, but at least give it back a few times since she's not doing it to be bad on purpose. She's learning cause and effect and one of those things is if I drop something, where does it go. I think it's more of a problem when she's 2 and throwing it down to get a rise out of you.

Sydney is 9 1/2 months and loves to do this too. If we are home we usually just keep giving it back to her... unless it gets really annoying and then we just take it away. If we are at a store or whatever we will do it like 2 times and the 3rd time I usually say bye bye.... but I try to not let her see me take it away cause then she will get mad... she has us trained tooChat Icon

Jacob is going to be 7 months next week and he is already doing this...he throws his toys on the floor...one toy at a time and looks at me after it hits the floor. If I dont pick it up, he screams. I guess I have a few more months of this Chat Icon Chat Icon
