thyroid levels changing after pregnancy?
did this happen to anyone? i was at my last visit at my obgyn (im almost 5 months PP) and i was telling my doctor how i get these hot flashes... and so he said it could be your thyroid. he does my blood work and my thyroid comes back low. now im supposed to meet with a endocronologist (sp?) what happens next... what can i expect? my sister has an overactive thyroid and my grandma's thyroid is all over the place... so i know its in our family. i know my thyroid levels were fine before pregnancy bc i was tested.
any advice? what lies ahead? i know some people choose not to take medicine? why?

Re: thyroid levels changing after pregnancy?
I have an underactive thyroid pre-pregnancy and have been constantly monitored. I am sent every 6 months - 1year for a biopsy. Usually you are monitored through bloodwork, and depending on your levels- your endocronologist with administer medicine. I have been on synthroid for the past 8 years, and go monthly to visits.

Re: thyroid levels changing after pregnancy?
I have had thyroid issues since I was pregnant with DS (so for 3 years now). I went for blood work every 6 weeks while pregnant and still am going every 6 weeks now b/c my levels have not evened out and I had DD 3 months ago. For one year between DS and DD I only went every 6 months.

Re: thyroid levels changing after pregnancy?
My thyroid level went way out of whack when I became pregnant with my DS. This happened right away for me. I had to take medication. I don't know the reasons why someone wouldn't. If your thyroid is underactive, your baby is not getting the amount of hormones it should, so it needs to be supplemented. During my pregnancy, I also went to the endocrinologist about every 6 weeks, more often at the very end. My DS is 11 months old and unfortunately, this has not gotten better. Actually, the dosage had to be increased. So, I will continue to take medication. However, I only have to see the endocrinologist every 6 months now. I get thyroid ultrasounds at those appointments.
