Ticks - Be very careful out there
A co-worker of mine just found out her 12 year old dog got diagnosed with Lyme Disease
She said she has the backyard sprayed, she gives him the preventive med's, etc.. and it still happened.
Just check your pets daily!!!

Re: Ticks - Be very careful out there
Does she take him/her to dog parks? Does she think it happened in her yard?
We plan to move to Suffolk and this really freaks me out. We don't really have ticks in Nassau where we live now.

We live in Suffolk and have never had a problem. We give Murray the liquid that goes on his back. I would think the majority of the time that stuff would work. Murray had a tick once in the beginning of spring , we removed it right away. DH realized he hadn't put the medication on for a while thank god we caught it.

It happened in the backyard.
I heard that the frontline does not prevent Lyme Disease, that is why you should just keep an eye out and check for it, also it is applied every 30-days, so just like anything the longer it is on, the weaker it can be so on the 27, 28th day, etc.. it might not be as effective.

Yeah, well it only kills the ticks that cause Lyme. But I guess if it doesn't kill the tick with Lyme, the dog can get the Lyme's disease.
I wish ticks weren't an issue here, I am petrified of getting Lyme myself!!!

I use Frontline on my dogs. I mark it in my calendar so I never forget. I am paranoid about this stuff, but like I said, it's not really an issue where I currently live at all. Small properties, not much woodsy areas.
I did find fleas on my dog but they were taken care of by the Frontline. I am so scared of ticks, I can't say it enough!!!
