Ticks

So apparently this year ticks are going to be a problem..DH has picked several off him and I find them on the dogs almost everyday...and i just found one in my car, hanging out on my doorChat Icon Chat Icon

My dogs get flea and tick preventative, so I know they are ok...but I'm worried b/c I'm 5months pregnant and the thought of getting a tick on me, freaks me out...

Does anyone know any measure I can take in my yard, besides keeping the grass cut short? I am calling the town today b/c the common land next to our house is long...just wasn't sure if there was a spray, or something else I can do
btw: I'm in NC, not sure if that matters

Re: Ticks

Not much you can do besides keep the grass short and maybe spray...which I would be wary of since you are PG.

The winter has been so mild that this is going to be a horrendous year for ticks.

Re: Ticks

Are you willing to get guinea hens? They eat the ticks in your backyard. I know some people that have them in their yards to eat the bugs.

Really? If someone wants to send me some, then sure thing...although I don't know how the dogs would like thatChat Icon

Apparently this isn't an easy fix...I think I hate ticks more than spiders...and that is a lot!

You can buy them I believe, not that expensive. They just roam your property, but don't fly. I know a family that has them and they have cats that don't even bother them.

what about that propane machine that they sell at home depot, you put it in the back of your yard and it works a certain amount of sq. ft to kill bugs in that range, maybe its good for ticks to?? I know a few people who have it for mosquitoes and it works great

I don't know much about being pregnant, but I assume you can't use any sprays on yourself when your outdoors?

Yeah they are a problem this season!

I found one on my dog yesterday and my dad had one on him after a round of golf last week.
