Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
My dh thinks it would be wise to put an all tile floor in the room we will renovate and make the den... I dont have anything against it but i do not see this too much around here and I am having a hard time visualizing this.. so my question is does anyone have tile in their dens or family rooms?? any pics to share?? and if you dont mind sharing any pros and cons??....thank you in advance....
(I really tried to google this but the results were very limited)

Re: Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
For me.. i want a den warm and cozy... with carpet that you can lay on and play games with the kids..
however, we want to get tile for the kitchen, hallway, and dining room. i don't know which kind to get either. they need to flow and not be too kitcheny.
so, i am in the same predicament as you are, sort of...

Re: Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
if i were you i would spring for the heated flooring system, especially in a family room. We didn't think of it until after the kitchen was done because I thought it was $$$, but some prices were very reasonable

Re: Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
cons would be that the tile gets EVERY LITTLE SPECK of dirt on it and its not like a carpet where you can get away with not vaccuming it for a couple of days
we have tile on the entire first floor of my house (with the exception of the den) and i have to give it a quick sweep once a day

Re: Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
I haven't seen tile in den/family rooms that often in NY, but people do it. We have laminate. We love it. It's warm and cozy feeling. But we do have an area rug by the couch. You can always have a large area rug with the tile.
check out my Family Room we just finished it a couple of weeks ago. GL!

Both my brother and mom have tile floors in their den. They also have sliding glass doors to go out to the backyard where they both have pools so it made sense.

Re: Tile floors (other than Bathroom and Kitchen)
I don't have any pics but I currently have carpet and cannot wait to get rid of it. I want either hardwood floors in my den or tile. I would prefer tile I think it looks really nice! I am not a fan of carpet at all. It collects dust, gets dirty, etc... Yes dirt does get on tile but there are so many tiles now a days that you dont even see a spec of dirt so I would TILE if I were you!

Yes, you can see my pool too in the backyard! Rugs don't make sense when you have a pool!

We have carpet now, but will be doing tile when we renovate the first floor so everything flows well. I'll probably have an area rug with the couch. I think its a good look.

we had all tile when we lived in CA, but it made sense to keep things cool.

I have HUGE 18 inch terra cotta tiles that I love, I wish I could tell you where to get them but they were in the house when we bought it with the heat...I love nothing more than turning it on on a cold day and stepping on a toasty floor But look into the bigger tile in this kinda color--it shows less dirt! Anything lighter will show and anything darker will show..here are some other pics just so you can see it clearer...and again, don't mind the pics, its from before we moved in :)Image Attachment(s):
