Time line for kitchen renovation
We decided to wait to renovate our kitchen in June of next year so when would I start ordering cabinets, tile, etc? Would it be too early to have measurements done in the next few months and shop around?

Re: Time line for kitchen renovation
i know when my parents had their kitchen done it took a total of 3 months from start to finish. i know my their contractor gave them a list of several companies they dealt with for cabinets and granite for countertops before contstruction started and that's when my parents shopped around and they also shopped around for tiles and appliances during the contruction as well. so i would wait until you have a contractor and they will guide you in the right direction. unless you are doing it all on your own, then i guess you can start earlier.

Re: Time line for kitchen renovation
we redid our kitchen ourselves - don't order cabinets until you are ready for them. ours sat in our garage for about a month. By the time we got them in, we noticed that our corner cabinet blind shelving was broken. We fixed it ourselves, but we only had 30 days to return.
I'm guessing if it happened to a contrator - they have more resources.

Be sure to find out the lead time for delivery and calculate that into your planning too. Our cabinets for our bathroom (which came from a cabinet place that does kitchen and bathroom cabinets) took 4 weeks for delivery both times. They were very accurate on the timing.

Re: Time line for kitchen renovation
Would it be okay at the end of the year (when on vacation) to have measurements done and go to numerous places for designs/prices?

Re: Time line for kitchen renovation
We started ours in April and were completely done, finishes and all, in the end of June. However, my DH did all the work himself practically and did it around his work schedule.

Re: Time line for kitchen renovation
We are in the middle of a kitchen renovation and it's going to be a 3 week project when all is said and done. We called in contractors for estimates, got their ideas, went and ordered the cabinets from Home Depot before we officially hired a contractor so that ball was already rolling on the cabinets. The contractor started 2 weeks later and the cabinets had already been delivered (i can't say enough about Home Depot/Kraftmaid....they were amazing)....
