Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
since I don't know how to make decisions on my own... and I already have this going on FB
I think I'm ready to move to a smartphone...BUT I'm concerned I'd be addicted like I am to my laptop
I don't like typing with a touch screen because I am a super-fast typist and need it to keep up with me So I must have a keyboard (unless there's someone out there like me that has adjusted to a touch screen and can give me hope...).
Would the $15 plan work for me? I'm not even sure how much data that would cover. I already feel like my plan is expensive enough- to pay nearly $100 a month seems crazy.
So... should I go with a Droid iPhone (this means I'll have to wait) LG Ally KIN two-m (this phone is one you just use wifi, no data charges)
Thanks for helping this infamously INDECISIVE human being!

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
We pay $150 with unlimited data, for 2 Droids. We also have unlimited text. Does the I-Phone have a keyboard? I thought it was only touch. I COULD NOT STAND the touch screen only for texting so I got the Droid with the keyboard.
We love them....good luck.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
I have the Storm, which I don't recommend (too many times it freezes), however, it is all touch screen and I have no problems at all. The keyboard layout can be changed to show it compressed (not sure what that's called, like it shows on the phone buttons) or it can be a full qwerty keyboard. I adjusted to it very quickly and don't mind it at all.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
Ive, how do you feel about the touch screen keyboard? does it keep up with you or do you find it makes a ton of errors?
I'm basing typing on a touch screen on my experience with the smartboard in school OMG I hate using that touch keyboard. I always go to my laptop to type anything in.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
DH has the Droid 2 which has a keyboard & he loves it. I have the Droid X which is all touch & I adjusted gaily well to the touch keyboard, but it did take getting used to. We have the unlimited text & data plan so I have no idea about the plans.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
though 3rd party places, you can pretty much get the incredible for free. incredible is a great phone.
regarding touch, there are sensitivity settings you can change that will impact your experience.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
Thanks Tom- with 3rd party though, won't that screw me up for the upgrade eligibility?
oh wait...forget that anyway, Verizon is doing without that soon!
When you say 3rd party, you mean like those private stores that sell Verizon phones, right?
Would I still be able to get an insurance plan?

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
I went from an HTC Pro touch thinking I wanted the Droid 2 b/c of the keyboard. I told myself to give the Droid X in the store while I was waiting. I sent one text and it was all I needed to convince me that on screen is not so bad.
I love my droid X!!! (I would imagine that incredible is similar)

wirefly amazonwireless dell wireless Bestbuy and other knowns stores.
Avoid verizon authorized stores.
On blackfriday, i picked up DW a incredible for free. We have a family plan so her line doesn't get 100 off for the discount. Since the phone is older, its more discounted at these other places.
Yes, you can still sign up for insurance. They are basically just transmitting the data over for you back to Verizon. the key thing you are missing is going back to the store and returning it if you have a problem and you wait for it to ship to you. no big deal since most of them are free and overnight. activating you phone takes 3 seconds.
I would do wirefly first. Amazon is newer and may offer more of a discount. But if its free, do wirefly
I would go to the store, pick what phone you want to ride with, then find it online. Regarding the iPhone, if you still have a 100 dollar credit, it would make sense to use it on the iPhone which won't get discounted for some time. THey aren't gonna renew it but you can still use it to upgrade your current phone.

Yes, the droid x since the screen is huge, its easier to type. The incredible is very similar but different make so the interface is slightly different.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
Tom you are so helpful! THANKS!! At Wirefly the Incredible is FREE with an extension and upgrade in plan!
One more stupid question- would I still be able to go to Verizon to have my contacts synced? Thanks!
Oh shoot- one more question. I have a discount on my verizon plan being a teacher...would I lose that if I go with wirefly? Thanks!

You will sync your own contacts. You will use back up assistant to upload your stuff to verizon and then once your new phone is on, you use back up assistant to download it into the new phone.
No, your discount stays the same. You are just extending your contract so just pick what you have currently. When all is said an done, if you like to verify you can call wirefly and/or verizon to verify.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
woah woah woah what's this????
They are charging me more for my calling plan! It's normally a $39.99 plan, but on wirefly it's 59.99, plus the $30 data charge. WT FFFFFFFFFF??
Yet I go to verizon to continue my contract and the price stays the same, just have to add the $30 for data.

ETA Okay holy sneakyness- I am really beginning to despise verizon. I went back to their site to extend the contract, and they have raised the price after all
I cant vouch for the price change. Data is data. With your discount, you will see that a little less for the primary line on the account. What kinda of plan do you have now? and when did you last get a phone?
I would call wirefly just to extend what you have currently have. Then if you realize you don't use much data, you could drop down to 15.00 dollar plan.

Re: Time to upgrade my Verizon phone...
I've got the 450 minutes plan, with my discount it's about 33.99. It's really bizarre how on wirefly they have it at 59.99 for the same minutes, and the data is an extra charge.
I called verizon and they said that shouldn't happen. Maybe I'm better off ordering over the phone. I'm going to check the phones out in person first because I can get a Droid 2 for free, and that has a physical keyboard. Thanks again!

I think you selected
Verizon Wireless Nationwide Single Line Talk & Text 450 (59.99)
I think you want
Verizon Wireless Nationwide Single Line Talk 450 (39.99)
On your phone now, you don't have unlimted texting right? because that is what the difference is. On wirefly, you need to change the plan with the up/down arrows.
So I did some more looking and wirefly doesn't offer that plan.
Amazon does. Amazon also offers the lower data plan for 15 bucks.
http://wireless.amazon.com/HTC-INCREDIBLE-Android-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B003HC8NUW/ref=bs_dp_ph_1
But before you do that, i would look for a phone that you want first and check your options.

I didn't see you can get the droid 2 for free at VZ. Only difference between global and regular is if you travel or not and need cell coverage.
Incredible should be the same experience but the interface is slightly different. Im not a fan of motorolla motoblur. its just a software addin on top of the google OS. HTC has something similar but works 10x better.
Keyboard is a big deal to some so check out the droid pro as that is a portrait keyboard (like a blackberry)
I think im out of info. let me know how everything turns out.
