Tips for HCG and progesterone shots?
Hi ladies,
Well, now I am scared of the intramuscular shots! Even more scared because DH is doing them.
Do you have any tips for making it as quick and painless as possible???

I was petrified!!
I had DH watch videos on the internet, plus practice on an orange. Over and over and over!
Of course, make sure you ice the area for a good 5 minutes before DH does the shot.
I was SO scared, but in the end, my DH did a fantastic job - and I didn't feel a THING! It was miraculous!

Ice the area really well till it's basically numb. Truthfully, the first time my dh did the PIO for me, I didn't believe him that he really did it because it didn't hurt at all. (as we used it more, we ran out of good spots to do it and depending on where you do it, you def feel it more) .. but icing it well definitely helps. I found it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and the anticipation was worse.
After, I used a heating pad. I didn't use one a few times, and it caused the oil to accumulate and make an itchy bump that would last a few days.

For the HCG shot I had to do mine in my arm and DH does not like needles so I had to do it myself (since I had to do it at 1:45AM).
I iced the area til it was basically numb, I did have DH squeeze my arm really, really tight and then I injected with my other arm. It did not hurt at all, the next day I did have a little bit of an ache but I was told that's normal.
For the PIO, again just ice really well and alternate sides each day. I had the nurse draw a little bullseye on my butt so my sister knew where to inject.
Good luck!! The anticipation is always worse.

Is this what the "chorionicc gonado " that I got in my package was? Does it normally hurt more than menopur and gonal?

human chorionic gonadotropin in HCG, not everyone has to do it IM. it depends what your IVF trigger is. for me i did a lupron trigger and the HCG was a booster that the nurse gave me after the ER.
but if you do have to do it IM, all IM shots are larger needles and in general they do hurt more than subQ shots which are the ones you do in your belly. IM shots can be done in the butt or arm or thigh.

Lean on the opposite leg he is injecting and keep your muscles loose! I tensed up the first time and it hurt... After that, it was cake... Barely felt it! Good luck!!

Thank you! So it is HCG? I just wait for them to tell me how to inject it maybe IM maybe not?
