Tips for PIO shots
Ok, DH officially s*cks at giving me PIO shots. Is it supposed to bleed that much? Last night was ridiculous. We've been warming it up, massaging afterwards and I haven't gotten any lumps or bad bruising, but what is up with the bleeding? Is he doing it wrong?

I bled after the shots, also. Not at the beginning, but after a week or two I would bleed everytime...
Not sure why.

Re: Tips for PIO shots
I didn't bleed from mine. I iced the area really well beforehand and it helped a lot. I would sit on one of those blue ice things for a minimum of 10 minutes - usually 15 minutes - before he shot me.
Also, make sure he "darts" the needle in quickly. I bruised when he didn't insert the needle fast enough.
HTH! Good luck!

Same here- I ice first even though they tell you not to. The only time we have trouble is when DH forgets to dart it in and thinks subq. Then I bleed and it hurts...

Re: Tips for PIO shots
As the above peoples have said...its all in the technique DH has been getting a little "sloppy" lately. I think he's darting it in right, but its his "release" that needs some work...its almost like the needle gets stuck...I dont know what the heck he's doing back there
P.S. I dont ice, I do however make sure that the PIO is warm (i stick it between my boobs for about ten minutes ), I make sure I turn my toes inwards to relax the muscle, after the shot, DH usually just massages for 10 seconds (it was more like 1 minutes when we first started ) with a napkin, and then with the napkin still tucked into my pants, I sit on a heating pad for 30 minutes.

Re: Tips for PIO shots
You just probably have a lot of blood vessels. Make sure you are injecting correctly(placement) Put your hands on your hips with the thumbs at the top of your butt cheeks. Then slide your thumbs down as far as you can without moving the rest of your fingers. This is correct placement

I didnt ice the area, I thought it was more painful. I took a warm wet cloth and put it in the injection sight for a few minutes and then did the shot. The warth made the oil go in faster and hurt less.

Re: Tips for PIO shots
I always had the nurse draw bullseyes to make sure I was hitting the right spots and I always iced the area for 20-30 minutes. I just sat on the couch with a bag of ice with a paper towel wrapped around it and leaned up against the couch with it leaning there.
I actually never warmed the PIO, although I probably should have. DH just would jab the needle in quick. I actually only bled once. My instructions for the PIO said that he should jab and draw back a little to make sure there was no blood, but there was no way I was doing that...I wanted that needle in there for as short a time as possible
