Toddler 2nd day of fever ...? Mom some questions.
My dd is running a fever for 2nd day in a row with congestion. I just took it was 102. I gave moltrin and piggy backing with tylenol, since yesterday. I have humidifier in her room.
My question is.. Toddler moms how do you take DCs Temp? Rectal was difficult if it wasnt for the help of my father I dont think I could do alone. She flips and kicks.
2. can the temp get that high if its teething? I wondering if her 2yr old molars are finally about to pop.
3. when sick do you leave Humidifier on all night? Im terrified of fires and couldnt get myself to leave on all night.
4. its 102 now, how high before I should really be freaked, 103?
Anything else I can do. Peds said wont see her until fever is 3 days in a row, unless it gets real high.

Re: Toddler 2nd day of fever ...? Mom some questions.
1. DD is almost 2. I still take her temp rectally. I just lay her on the changing table, pull her legs up like I'm cleaning her butt, and take the temp. She's not happy about it, but it only takes about 5 seconds and it's done. She can't really squirm around b/c I've got her pinned.
2. I didn't think temps could get that high from just teething, but I could be wrong.
3. Yes, we left the humidifier on all night. As long as the outlet is in perfect working order, there are no frays on the cord, and it's pulled completely away from other things, it would be fine to leave on all night. I understand your concern, but lots of people leave them on...but it is all about what YOU are comfortable with in your house.
I think it's really odd that your ped won't see her. Personally, I'd call and demand to bring her in today. My ped NEVER questions why I want to bring DD in.

See, I disagree with that. It could be an ear infection, could be a urinary infection (have you noticed any smelly urine?), could be things that COULD be assessed.

No smell to urine, shes not tugging on ear, but shes have had ear infections when younger and never touched her ear. Im going to take temp again and if its still high Im going to take her in. I told her the temp has been consistant and even gotten higher while on the moltrin and tylenol.

I told recep that, her response was bringing her in isnt going to prevent my younger one from getting sick.. she wasnt snotty about it, I guess just stating.
I hate when they get sick.. they should make us mommys have magical powers were we can take away their sickness and put it on ourselves instead.. at least until they reach a certain age.

Re: Toddler 2nd day of fever ...? Mom some questions.
I would do the saline spray for her nose and the humidifier every time she is sleeping, including naps. I also love the Vick's pediacare plug ins. I put that on at night.
I wouldn't be concerned until it got closer to 104 or it was a constant 103 even with meds.
DD had a virus 2 weeks. She had the same symptoms and her fever lasted about 4 days. I brought her to the ped and their was nothing wrong.

Re: Toddler 2nd day of fever ...? Mom some questions.
I agree with the receptionist. If it is a virus their isn't anything they can do and you run the risk of them catching something more contagious.
As far as your little one, I would just make sure you wash your hands a lot and try to keep your older one away from the baby. If #2 is going to get sick, it is going to happen weather you bring #1 to the doctor or not. The only things my kids have caught from each other is the stomach bug. When my DD had the virus my older one didn't get it at all. Instead I was the one that felt congested.

This part bothers me. If her temp isn't coming down while she has the Motrin and Tylenol in her system, I would want the doctor to look at her, just to be on the safe side.
My DS had a virus a few weeks ago and had over 104 for four days, but it did come down to almost normal once the Motrin kicked in. My doc told me that if the fever didn't go down on the Tylenol, or if the fever didn't go down after 3 days to bring him back in. I would either insist on bringing her in, or talking directly to a doctor, not just the receptionist. Our ped's office will almost always tell you to bring them in if you want someone to look at them.
ETA: Just to answer some of your other questions - we left the humidifier on all night through most of the winter and it was fine. If she fiesty enough to resist the rectal thermometer, she's probably not that sick And I would definitely call the doctor back if her temp goes over 103.

Thats just how my dd is.. she had stomach flu in feb, and continued jumping on couch while vomiting. I fear the day she just lays there.. then I know its hospital time.

Is your furniture now all covered in plastic?
Glad she's doing better.

I am glad her temp came down At 3 yrs old I still take his temp rectally, poor kid It is rare nowadays that I do it anyway. I can pretty much tell if he has one or not and go from there.

Re: Toddler 2nd day of fever ...? Mom some questions.
First, find a new doc! 3 days with a fever is a lot.
My DS had 102.3 2 weeks ago on a Sunday night. Called the doc/service - they said not to go to the hospital unless it was over 104...They said to give him tylenol and bring him to the doc in the morning. We did - another ear infection.
If you think something is wrong - take DC to the doctor - even if its just a teething fever - 102 is high.
I got the forehead one - $30 @ costco. It is good if you get the whole head and if DC isn't sleeping on part of it b/c that would be hotter. If it was over 101, i'd take it rectally also just to confirm.
