Re: Toddler allergy testing
My son had his blood drawn first. When he came back postivie for several things they did the pricking test. Basically they prick them with mini needles dipped in the allergen into your childs back. You have to wait about 20 minutes, and you can't touch the kid's back. then the allergist comes back in and read the results.

Re: Toddler allergy testing
For my son, we suspected an egg allergy so we brought him in. They did the skin test on his back. It wasn't that bad - we kept him distracted and he didn't even try to scratch at all. We also did a blood test, which was torturous. The blood test was done at his 1-year checkup at my ped (with a script from the allergist).
I have a great allergist in RVC if you need one!

Not sure what I think she allergic to. I thought perhaps chocolate, but it's only sometimes that she gets red puffy eyes and red blotches on her face. Tonight she ate some xmas cookies...a peanut butter cookie w/ a hershey kiss on it and 2 butter cookies with sprinkles. Then got red puffy eyes and she was rubbing them and also scrathcing her ears. I gave her benadryl and within 15 minutes it was so much better, so I am sure it was an allergic reastion, just not sure what to.

I would definitely bring her in, just to be sure. Try not to give her those cookies again. Most times, the second time they are exposed to something they are allergic to, the worse the reaction is. The doc can test for a variety of different things at the same time.

Re: Toddler allergy testing
We also had a skin prick test for DS and a blood draw for RAST testing. Our experience was the same as a PP, the skin test wasn't bad at all, but the blood test was awful.
I also agree with the PP, I would avoid the cookies until she is seen by an allergist. IT could have been any number of ingredients - the eggs, peanuts or chocolate - or she could even be allergic to a few of them and you were seeing a combined reaction. DS is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and eggs, which makes baking Christmas Cookies interesting
