Toddler Birthday Party- if you have two celebrations one with family and one with kids, PLEASE come in
Planning my DD's 2nd birthday and I am driving myself a bit crazy.
Ideally I would love to have one party at home where the guest list includes family, and friends and DD's little friends with their parents- unfortunately my house is not suitable to accommodate this for a winter birthday!
SO, I am having a party at a kiddie place with DD's friends and our friends with their kids, and DD's cousins.
Id like to have second get together for the family-- grandparents, older aunts and uncles and the same cousins --- Was thinking of just having the family over after the kiddie party for lunch, since some of the guests overlap anyway..but it seems like overkill??
Does anyone have any other suggestions??

We have two parties especially since we live away from our family.
It is usually kids party one weekend then family party the next. My DD (4) would not be able to handle SO much excitement in one day. Plus, the kiddy party is usually at a party place so that gives me one more week to clean up my house for family.
My only question is at what age do I stop having family come for a party for my kids? 5? 10? Still not sure because I love throwing a party!

We do a kids party at a place and then have our parents and siblings over for dinner. No extended aunts or cousins. This s what we've been doing for 7 years.

I'm doing this next week for my twins 3rd bday and I'm ready to jump out a window. Lots of stress with xmas around the corner too. I'm having the family party at my dads house bc I live in a small apt. Yea maybe it is overkill but If we didn't do this when would the family celebrate the childs bday? IMO its only fair everyone celebrates and the kids are recognized by both friends and family.

DITTO -- DD"s birthday is in two weeks. We always celebrated wth friends and then family growing up- two separate parties- the only reason I feel it is overkill is bc DD has a lot of cousins (our siblings kids, who would be coming to both parties) its almost the same group of people at both parties, except with a few more aunts and uncles at the family party - the grandparents will be at both. BUt the adults wont get to socialize much in a 1.5 hour party so we figured, an "after party" with the family would make sense, plus the aunts and uncles who wouldn't make it to the kids party. We did this last year too.. its stressful but I don t mind. Just wasn't sure if I was the only crazy one to double party!

This is what we did last year for DD's 2nd birthday and will do again this year. With extended family, it's 65+ people. We did it for 1st birthday, but I can't do that every year.

We do cake with immediate family only on their actual birthday, then have a birthday party with their friends at our house over the weekend.

We had ds' 2nd birthday at a small bounce place for friends and had a family party a different weekend at home. Was too much to have have together. Family wouldn't want to go to the kiddie party and it would have been too crazy with all the friends AND family at home. Dont know if I'll continue to do that though..
