Toddler drinking too much milk
My 2 1/2 year old DD drinks WAY too much milk. I'm very aware of it, but I feel bad saying no when she wants more milk. I also can see it's affecting her eating because she barely eats in the last few months. And her diapers are so heavy in the mornings from all the milk she drinks, so I feel like it's even delaying potty training because she pees so much.
Any advice on how to cut it down w/out being cruel in her eyes? I feel bad because it's not as if she's asking for more candy - it's milk. How many fluids should she be drinking at this age? She hardly has any water and wants milk over juice also!

Re: Toddler drinking too much milk
My son is 18 montsh old now but I was told my ped no more than 20 ounces a day and that's when he turned 1. I give him 8 ounces before bedtime and another 8 when he wakes up so he is getting less than 20 oz. During the day he will have water, juice from a sippy cup unlimited amount of water of course. I usually give him juice with breakfast and with his afternoon snack and I usually dilute the juice with water.
Maybe offer her some new drinks like the juice boxes with straws. I just tought my son to drink from them and he loves it. Buy some new sippy cups???
Good luck

Re: Toddler drinking too much milk
She will sometimes choose milk over a juice box! I am going to try to just cut it out other than breakfast and dinner. I just feel bad but I know too much milk isn't good. Thanks!

Re: Toddler drinking too much milk
Like with anything else, try to distract her with something else. My DS is also 2 1/2 and sometimes I give in when he wants more but generally I remind him that milk is for nite nite time and he can only have it if he wants to go nite nite. That generally changes his mind

Re: Toddler drinking too much milk
my DD also is a big drinker. likes her milk. what we have been doing, is diluting her milk. she's getting her 8 ounce bottle in the morning, but its only 4 ounces of milk and 4 ounces of water. she doesn't seem to notice a difference at all. (we're doing it because she is getting constipated and the doc said more water less milk) so she gets between 9 and 15 ounce sof milk each day depending on how many bottles she gets. if we're out i still with water because its easier to carry. she seems perfectly happy with the watered down milk so we've been doing that for about 6 weeks now.

Oh that is a great idea - put water in it. I thought about it but thought it would be gross but if she doesn't mind - can't hurt. Thanks!

Sorry to crash, but my SIL and brother did this with my nephew a few months ago. He just turned 2. The doctor said too much milk would make him anemic, so she started watering it down. They also switched him from a bottle to a sippy cup so he would be drinking a little less.

Good to know - we stopped the bottle when she turned 1 and she drinks out of a regular cup with a straw. I'm just going to water it down for now and try to offer her other things during the day.
