any tips for decreasing milk intake for toddler?
we just had an appointment with the gastroenterologist today and he wants us to decrease Brendan's milk intake from 24 oz to 16 oz. Right now I give him 3 8oz sippy cups a day. I've been wanting to cut back his milk for a while now, but he is always asking for it. when he's done he usually even asks for more (but i don't give it). sometimes even when i'm giving him a meal he'll push the food away and ask for mik. i've also been offering him water instead thinking maybe he's just thirsty, but he never drinks a substantial amount of water. should i cut out a cup all together or give him 5-6 oz at a time instead of 8? gradual or cold turkey? do i just ignore his persistent whining and crying for milk? i'd really appreciate any advice! this kid loves his milk!

I would decrease each cup and try to get him to drink more water and water/juice milk after he finishes his cup.

Sarah asks for milk multiple times a day too, so we had to cut back the amount in the cup. She gets 4 4oz. servings a day. She has never complained that the cups are not full.

Just curious why do/did you all have to decrease their milk intake?

for us we have to decrease DS's milk intake from 24 to 16 oz because of diarrhea problems. but i think that they aren't supposed to get more than 24oz a day so if you're giving more than that you might have to decrease it. i think if they're getting too much milk they'll be taking in less food and can possibly become anemic because they're not getting enough iron from food.
