Toddler Sleep Habits

My wonderful, amazing sleeper has vanished...gone...nowhere to be found. After sleeping through most of the first two months, sleeping through the night since 3 1/2 months, and basically ASKING for bed at night...I am at a loss on how to "re-train her"

Ever since she got sick the day after Thanksgiving, every naptime and nighttime is a battle going down and multiple wake-ups in between. She still kisses us goodnight and hugs us, but the minute the door is closed its SCREAMS city...and this toddler has staying power. She'll throw her monkey out and scream for it back...she'll toss the covers and beg for them back. It's pure manipulation.

I am in no-man's land. I have never really had issues. A couple of nights bad sleep because of teething or a cough...but this has been a solid month of hell.

HELP!

Re: Toddler Sleep Habits

I wish we had some advice for you. We have been in the same hell for awhile. She will only nap on my couch, never in her bed anymore. As for night she is pushing 10pm every night and this momma can't take it. I honestly have taken to doing my nighttime routine with her, putting her into bed sitting there for a few minutes and then coming up with an excuse as to what I have to do downstairs and then I leave her door open and do what I have to do and yell up to her that I will be right there everytime she calls out to me so that she knows I can still hear her and then she eventually falls asleep. Not the most ideal way but it's all that works for us right now.

Is Bella still in her crib?

Jared does the same thing for naps. He begs for me to cover him and his puppy. When I do it and walk away, they're uncovered and he's asking me to do it again. I used to fall for it but not anymore. I just walk out of the room and close the door. If he has to cry it out to go to sleep, then so be it. Bedtime is usually easier because we have a routine and he knows when it's time to go.

Is Bella afraid of the dark? Do you have a nightlight in her room?

Re: Toddler Sleep Habits

yes, she is still in her crib. She hasn't attempted really to climb out, so we are holding off. I mean, we are thinking about a bed NOW, because the past few weeks have been so bad...but who knows if that will make it worse.

We have been doing a nighttime routine since day 1, and she still plays along. Kiss goodnight, goes under her covers...but the INSTANT we walk out of the room it's hysterics city.

I just don't know how to sleep train a two year old who never needed it at all really.

Antonio loves going to bed now because that is the only time he gets his pacifier...so he actually asks for bed

but we did go through that throwing that blanket out the crib and then crying for it

I put the fan on tha a/c in his room to block out the noise because he can't relax if he hears us still up...there at that age now when they think they are miissing the fun

He also has a hard time going down if we miss his bedtime

I think you are right about this...is it to late to introduce music or a noise machine?

We have a white noise machine and we are consistent with using the same sound. We have to have one because my dh works nights and used to wake her up when he came home (on accident- wood floors). That works for that but is not helping us with sleeping. I am thinking that they are done with their cribs. We are in the process of setting up her big girl room. We stopped because of the holidays but I think we have to get back to that ASAP. I think that my DD is just getting too big to move around comfortably in her crib anymore. I know it is probably an excuse but honestly I just can't figure this one out anymore. It is my nightly tourture.Chat Icon

I am with you girl...it was so sudden and after she was really sick for a few days but I figured all would be fine after a week. A MONTH later and she is getting worse...I think her molars are finally coming in too.Chat Icon Chat Icon I told DH that I feel like I have a newborn again.
