Re: Tomorrow Is My 20 Week Sono..***UPDATE** WE'RE BACK
I can and my has one. This is what I learned. I go to a group at columbia and their maternal fetal group does the sonos. This is what they explained to me about it. That the sono machines these days (they often use 4D there) are MUCH more advanced than 5-10 years ago. The OLD standard was to worry about downs - BUT - now with the new much more advanced equipment they find many babies have this and it means nothing - and that there are probably millions of people walking around with it. They said now that they look for additional markers. If they find no additional markers you are basically in the clear and they don't worry about it. THEY did however reduce my downs numbers in half (I was 1 in 1690 or something like that) and it made my numbers go to 1 in 850. They also told me not to have an amnio b.c my risk was MUCH lower than my risk of miscarriage from the amnio.
I would say if everything else looked great (and in my case they said the rest of the heart looked good and strong) then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it and see what they say again at your next visit. Basically the impression they left me with was that IF there was a problem there WOULD be other markers seen on the sono not just the bright spot.
Etd to add when I had DD she had a possible condition that could need surgery at birth - they scared me to death about it - and seemed really concerned. I can say this time around the same OB was very blase about it so I would say it isn't something that they stress over if that makes you feel any better to know if they were concerned they would have made a big deal over it.

When I was pg with Brody he had the Calcium deposit on his heart, but no other markers.
He was born perfectly fine. If it makes you feel better, you can request a Fetal Echo. They do it at Good Sam Pediatric center. I was probably about 6 or 7 months pg when I had thet test done.

DS had the same soft marker on his heart - i think they called it an "echogenic focus".
i wouldn't worry about it one bit, especially since everything else looks fine with the baby.
my experience was that they made us have a fetal echo at 24 weeks, which ended up being completely normal. in fact, the doc asked us to use jonah's results as a normal control in his experiments... he said that SO many people have this "soft marker" and more often than not it's NOTHING.

So relieved and happy for you! What wonderful, reassuring news! I'll continue to that this soft marker is absolutely NOTHING to even think about! But I think it sounds VERY reassuring!

My DD had the same thing at her 20 week sono and I was a nervous wreck. However, it turned out to be nothing of consequence and she is perfectly healthy!

Re: Tomorrow Is My 20 Week Sono..***UPDATE** WE'RE BACK
Just wanted to add that DD #1 had the same thing and it was NOTHING. She is perfectly fine. Like the previous posters have said, the technology is so much more advanced that things that were once thought to be an "anomaly" are now the norm!
This "echogenic focus" means nothing BY ITSELF. if your child had a genetic disorder, this same technology would find it. Don't worry! This is so normal and common!

Re: Tomorrow Is My 20 Week Sono..***UPDATE** WE'RE BACK
I posted this a while ago. I start my 28 weeks today and have a sono tomorrow morning! I'm still hoping they say "All is normal" and maybe with some hope and the marker on the heart is not there. I've been having A LOT of Faith that all is OK, at the same time, still have the thought in my head. I'll know more tomorrow morning!
