Only one name that would be a possibility for us is on that list and we would only use it for a middle name should we be blessed with a son some day - Jacob.

Yeah, we didn't want to pick one of the most popular names either so he could avoid being one of many with the same name in school, but oh well.

None of those are our picks - whew. Growing up with a name as common as Jessica for my day was horrible. My two best friends were Jessica - that's how common it was!

I've always said, I will never name my kid a name that makes it to the top 10 for that year. Chat Icon

Madison is also a boy's name. It is actually unisex. I totally agree with you and think of it as a girls name. My DH's little cousins are names Madison and Mackenzie and they are BOTH BOYS!!!
Now wouldn't you automatically think 2 girls???

Funny that I like most of the top 10 names but would never choose one b/c of it. And no matter how much I liked it I purposley wouldn't use it. It really shouldn't matter how popular or unpopular a name is, but the truth is that it matters to me.

I can't believe Jackson made the list. I fell in love with that name when the TV mini series North & South was on. When I would tell people, they would Chat Icon because they didn't get it as a name. I didn't realize I was so progressive. Chat Icon

DH and I already agreed that if we have a boy his name will be Ethan, but now that I see it on the list, I might want to reconsider.

Re: Top Boys and Girls Names of 2007

DH really wants to name Chat Icon one of the top names on the list. Growing up as Jennifer, I am fighting it. It was a pain having such a popular name.

But when you go to the SS website and look at the popularity of names, they show you the number of people with that name per year and you can see the %. It seems that people are much more creative now than back then, b/c the popular names are much fewer than in the 70s. For example, Jennifer was used for at least 5,000 girls each year in the 70s, but Emma is barely breaking 1000 per year.

DH argument that it won't be as bad for our DD as it was for me.

Neither of our names are on the list. I do love Aiden, but DH doesn't, so that wasn't even an option for us.
