Thanks!

Look up pressure-mounted gates. We bought some from One Step Ahead. They are $$$ but no screws and they work great.

We got one from retract-a-gate. It is a separate kit and we are very happy with it.

We have the summer infant one, as well, and it is very sturdy. In fact, it's difficult for me to open, lol!

Re: top of the stair gates that dont need to be drilled into banister?

I would highly, highly suggest getting a gate that DOES screw in at the top of the stairs. A friend of mine had a pressure-mounted gate that seemed secure, and somehow her 2 year-old went toppling down the stairs--the gate had come loose Chat Icon

I know they can be unsightly, but it's really in your best interest to get one that screws in, ESPECIALLY for the top of the stairs. Someday, when you take it out, it'll be easy enough to cover up the evidence that there was ever a gate there.

I've heard that at the top of the stairs, screwed in ones are really the only way to be safe. Pressure mounted ones just aren't safe enough, unfortunately.

They a banister kits that go around the banister so you don't have to screw it in to the banister.

We have these and are happy with them - you can screw the gate into the bar from the kit as well so it doesn't have to be pressure mounted.

ETA: It's by Kidco and I found the best prices at Diapers.com (there is only one in each kit).
