Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

Just wondering how many total hours your 3 year old sleeps.
Up until a few weeks ago, DD would sleep 10-11 hours at night and another 1-3 hour nap during the day. A couple of weeks ago she dropped her nap and is only getting 9.5-10 hours of sleep each night. She is MISERABLE!!! I can tell she is overtired.
We got blackout curtains. She woke up 3 nights in a row screaming she was scared and when I went in she was shaking. We took them down and that resolved. Now she is back up at the crack of dawn and is just so tired and irritable.
Any recommendations?

Dd has given up naps. By 530pm she is this overtired and over exited kid who now isn't falling asleep till 830/9pm. Dd also has started waking up crying and coming into our room late at night. No advice just commiserating.

Yes! Overtired and overexcited is exactly what we see. She goes to sleep between 8:30 and 9 and is up by 6! Not enough!!!

Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

My DS always slept between 10-11 hours at night. Very rarely does he sleep more than that. He's in bed by 8pm and usually up between 6 & 7 am. If she's going o sleep between 8:30 and 9pm, that is probably too late for her. You need to move her bedtime up by 30 minutes - 1 hour to help her compensate. Once we did that, he started sleeping better.

Re: Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

How about the black out curtains with a little night light? My dd has that and it has helped. If you ask her to just play in her bed or have quite time for a little while will she do that for nap time? Sometimes dd just hangs out in her bed for a little bit and plays while other times she goes to sleep. She is 4.5 and she did go through a phase of dropping the nap, but now she went back to it.

Otherwise I think she was sleeping from about 8:30 to around 7:30 at that age and nap time was between 1.5 and 2 hours.

If she's getting up at 6 and going to bed between 8:30 and 9 (without napping) I personally think she's going to bed too late. I'd give her an earlier bedtime.

Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

My 2 year old DD sleeps better when she goes in around 9pm. She sleeps from 9-6 and with a 2 hour nap. I never understand when pple say to make her bedtime half hour earlier bc all I do is spend that time walking back and forth to her room bc she is either crying, screaming or making excuses of things she needs. If I force her to bed before 9pm she almost always wakes up at 1am wide eyed and bushied tale.
I think some kids just dont need as much sleep. I would try and force her to nap or have quiet time.

By 3, DD had given up her nap and was sleeping about 11 hours at night. When she was walking too early and sometimes during the night we got the OK to wake clock and gave her an m&m if she stayed in bed the whole night.

Re: Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

Thanks. We tried the blackout curtains with the nightlight. That didn't work. We do try to do "relax time". She was jumping on her bed or running out of her room so I started relax time in the rocker. I just hold her and rock her for an hour. She seems to relax then but she rarely actually falls asleep.
I will try to put her down a half hour earlier.
Thanks!

Re: Total hours of sleep for almost 3 year old

My DS has always been a problem sleeper. Always. Just recently he's started STTN again. We start bedtime anywhere between 7:30-8:15 depending on his day, but it generally takes him a while to fall asleep. On average he falls asleep around 8:45 and wakes up around 7:30. I try VERY HARD to make sure he gets at least 1 hr nap during the day or else he's a disaster by 5pm. If all else fails, around 2:30pm I pop him in the car to get him to sleep. Makes us all happier come evening :)

My daughter is doing 8-6. Not enough. Shes 4. Shes emotional. Shes cranky. Shes testy. And I have tried everything with her.
I hung sheets over her windows (I didnt want to spend an arm & a leg on new curtains to find out it didnt change a thing so I tried just covering her windows before bedtime) DIDNT CHANGE A THING. Still woke up every day same time. I did it for a month with no change.

I have tried getting her to bed earlier she still rolls around and talks to herself until 8.

I have resorted to shes not allowed out of bed until 7.
Still nothing. She wakes at 6. I swear she does it every summer, she did this last summer to. Im hoping once she starts camp is back to a routine and schedule she will stop waking so early.

She used to sleep 730-7, 730 and was much happier overall.

My Dd will be 3 in 3 weeks...she goes down at 7:30 and gets up at about 7:30/8:00...she also naps for 2-3 hours each day. If she doesn't get this, she is a monster!

My DD turned 3 last month. Most nights she is in bed by 8:30/9 and will generally sleep until 8/8:30. She also takes a two hour nap still as well.

DD is almost 3. She rarely naps except if she is really tired, but she naps more often when she's at my parents. Go figure.

I try for 10 hours but it usually doesn't happen. She's a night owl like me and a complete terror to get to bed.

If my kid doesn't nap, he'll sleep 8pm-5:30am

If he does nap (anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 1/2 hours), he'll sleep 1030pm-5:30am.

So at night, anywhere between 7-9 hours. Some days he's crankier than others but in general he can make it through without a nap despite the 5/530 am wake up. I can't, but he can Chat Icon

It should be noted that I've done everything to try and make him sleep later in the morning; black out curtains, sound machine, earlier bedtime, later bedtime, doesn't matter. He is up with the sun.

In the beginning he was a terrible crank about it but after a couple of months of having more non nap days than nap days, he's gotten better. He'll be 4 in November.
