totally new mom question

I'm sure many of you will laugh, but we're taking DD out to the Dr today and then afterwards I have to run to Target, and I wanted to bring a bottle of formula with me in case she gets hungry...We use RTF, and was wondering how I bring it since you are instructed to discard it after 2 hours of keeping it out....also, should I warm it up and foil it before I pack it away...

AHHHH, help I'm sooo confused...I know it's sad that this is confusing meChat Icon

Re: totally new mom question

Bring the bottle but unwarmed, this way it will keep longer should she not need it. Which is a good chance, between the Dr and Target she will probably be pooped and sleep the whole time!

If she needs it go up to the food area and ask for ½ a cup of HOT water. Soak the bottle for a few minutes and poof you are fine.

ETA: If she is due to eat during that time then warm it up and just put it in the pocket of hte diaper bag that is insulated, it will keep it warm enough.

Re: totally new mom question

not a funny question at allChat Icon I usually bring it in a cooler bag, and then get a cup of hot water and warm it that way...but I do use the drop ins, and they warm up easier...but Im sure you could do that or a reg bottle....

if shes going to need it within a short time of being out, I would warm it and just put it in your bag

Go tot he local drug store and buy the individual ready to feed bottles. hey sell them in 2oz and 8 oz bottles. They are just like the ones from the hospital. Bring a nipple. It will be room temp so no need to warm. HTHChat Icon

Re: totally new mom question

Since you are probably going through the RTF bottles pretty quick anyway, you can always bring an unopened container, and pop it open when it's time to feed DC.

We usually use the cooler packs and ice packs when we brought formula with us. (as well as the unopened RTF idea...)

I feel your pain! Reilly eats the Sensitive RS too! Like the other moms suggested, I usually will warm up her bottle and throw it in her diaper bag if she is going to eat as soon as we get to our first destination. If not, then I usually will just put a bottle unwarmed in the diaper bag so by the time she is to eat, it will be room temp and then I just feed it to her anyway. I wanted to be sure that she would take a bottle whether or not it was warmed so from time to time I give her one unwarmed when we are out. I haven't had any problems! Good luck! Chat Icon

Yah, I've given her unwarmed bottles too to get her used to it as well...
Did you try any other formulas before this one, we switched to this after we fed her Advance from the hospital and then got these samples from the Dr's office and she responded really well to it...

She was on Similac Advance Early Shield after BFing didn't work out. I found that she was spitting up alot and so the Dr. recommended that we try the Sensitive RS. It has definitely helped with the spit up but she does still do it a good amount. At her 3 month appt last week, the doctor told me to add 1 tsp of rice cereal for every 2 oz of formula to help with the spit up issue. I think she has been spitting up less but she still does spit up! Chat Icon I guess that's just my girl! Chat Icon How is your DD responding to it? Less spitting up?

The thing is she was never spitting up at all, she would just have tummy issues and it would hurt her after the advance early shield...so we tried this bc we got it as samples at the dr and noticed that she was less fussy and had less tummy troubles after a feeding....I'm actually going to ask the dr today to see if he recommends anything else..

DS had reflux and what we used to do was fill DS's bottle with 6 tsp. of rice cereal only (no milk). I kept a Similac Advance 8 oz RTF in his diaper bag. When it was time to feed, I would pour 6 oz of RTF into the bottle with the rice cereal and shake it up. No need to heat and it worked fine for his reflux.

Other times I would do what other PPs have mentioned, which is to keep the milk in an insulated bag and heat the bottle in a cup of warm water.

After a few months, we realized that DS didn't mind drinking chilled milk so we stopped heating all together.

Re: totally new mom question

I carry a Prince Lionheart on the go bottle warmer. It works really well. It does not require any electricity or batteries and can be used over and over.

It is great for those time when you are not near hot water.

To keep the bottle cold I just put it in a ziplock bag with an ice pack.
