Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
Hi, First, I have never been so upset before in my entire life!!! Im tring to think positive and know in the end, it's all going to be "fine" and she'll be healthy and perfect!
Well, due to my age, the Dr.'s wanted me to do the amnio. I did blood work and the results of that blood work showed that the chance of the baby having DS was 1 in 3000, so we opted not to do the amnio. I'm TERRIFIED of the amino for one reason- the needle could puncture the womb and I *could* loose the pregnancy.
I was fine, I feel fine, I don't even feel pregnant (Until I almost fainted on the LIRR this morning, but that's another post)... go to the Dr.'s so excited to see our "Lil D". When the nurse was done, she had the Dr. look at the pictures, came back and said the Dr. wanted to talk to us. This has never happened, so I knew it wasn't fantastic news! Well... they said she has cysts near her brain, but this is common w/ babies and some adults and we all just live with it. 2. Here's where I really loose it.... Since the cord was over her face, they can't tell for sure, but they think she has a clif lip (spelling?) which is totally correctable.. BUT if it's a chomosone issue, that her pallate might not develop and she might have speech issues/problems. This is highly likely, due to my age.
has anyone else been told their baby had cysts near the brain, or the lip/pallete issues?
I'm going for the amnio on Tues. and they're going to do the 3D to see if they can get a better picture of the lip. They want me to go to a genetics counselor to hear all the options/possibilites!
Im trying to think positive, but, it's so hard... all I keep doing is crying!

Cleft palate is totally repairable, although the baby will need several procedures until it's totally fixed. Speech therapy is likely needed as well.
I am so sorry you are going through this-please try to stay positive. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your baby...

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
I am still early in my pg so I don't really have any answers for you but, your post broke my heart because I can only begin to imagine what you are going through and wanted to send you lots of
The other thing I want to say and - i know this is much easier said than done - but try not to worry too much until you have confirmation of things. Since being pg and before being pg I have heard SO SO SO SO SO SO many stories of "false alarms" from all this testing - from the ultrascreen to even the amnio! Sometimes I think modern technology does more harm than good!
Hang in there and sending many many your way that everything will turn out ok!

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
Thanks girls!! I just wanted one thing to be perfect!
I mean in my life... things just don't seem to ever run smoothly! After the year I've had, I was hoping that my life w/ Pete and our new daughter would not have any bumps in the road. I can handle a complication w/ me.. I've been so careful- bad back etc.. now, this poor little girl might have troubles.
I really hope it's nothing....
I just keep praying.

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
Michelle!!! I don't know what to say! I am praying for you, Pete and Baby D!!!!! I can oly imagine how you're feeling right now. I am sure things will be okay, and whatever challenges she may present are fixable, which is good. I know that doesn't just magically fix it and make you feel better.
As for the amnio, we all know there are risks, but I think the need to know what is going on outweights the risk. Again, easy for me to say b/c I am not in your shoes.
MANY s and s for all of you!!!!! If you need to talk, I'm here!!!

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
I just went through with the amnio 2 weeks ago. It is scary but there are a lot of people on here who have had them. My chances for trisomy 18/13 were 1 in 100. I am only 24, so my age was not the factor. I really didn't want to know the results but I couldn't deal with not knowing what was going on with the baby.
The amnio itself is alright. They compared it to taking blood from your arm, which I didn't agree to. I can give blood no problem. This hurt a little more. The specialist I saw was great.
They had to poke me twice. The first time the baby moved and they pulled out right away.
It was stressful waiting for the results, but its the only way to know 100% whats going on with the genetic makeup. A genetic counselor is a great person to see, because they can explain so much and answer questions.

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
Will they allow for another Level II at a later time to see if they can't get a better look at the pallette/sinus cavity? I had to go back since my nugget was sucking its thumb & the tech could not get a clean reading. I would definitely try to stay calm and see if they cannot get you another appointment soon.

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
If I knew how to copy and paste I would...
Yes, we're going on Tues. to see if the cord has moved from in front of her face to get a better reading on the lip. & They're going to do the amnio and we will get the results that same day.
this is going to be such a hard weekend!!!!!!

Good luck with the amnio. It only takes a couple of minutes and it doesn't hurt.

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
cleft palate is totally reparable... BUT it sounds like they aren't sure if that's even going on. there's a chance that this is just a false alarm - which has happened to SO many people for one condition or another.
i know it's impossible, so i'm not going to say 'relax'... it's going to be a rough 4 days before your repeat sono on tuesday...just know that we are here for you.
keeping you and your little one in my thoughts and prayers-

Re: Totally scared & Freaking out from Level II
You poor thing. I feel so bad for you.
Just try to stay string. I think someone else on here had cysts near the brain on their baby, that cleared up. My preggo brain wont let me remember.
The cleft lip CAN be corrected and its just a chance now. So try your HARDEST to not freak out till its proven to be true? Easier said then done I know....
WIll say a prayer for you
